Hi all, I am Canadian (by birth) living in the US who was married to an American at the time of my son's birth. I have been trying to get him Canadian citizenship but my most recent application was rejected because I left the form fields about how his mother became Canadian blank because she is only American. (This is page 4/7 of the application of that helps). They returned the application with the empty bits highlighted asking me to fill them but there's nothing I can put there.

I know only one parent needs to be Canadian but I can't figure out how to let the Canadian govt know through this form that his mother is American only and has no Canadian information. This is the third time the application has been rejected so I'd really like to figure this out. Any help would be incredibly appreciated!

The instructions of the checklist basically tell you to answer every question (i.e.: do not leave anything blank) and to put "N/A" for anything not applicable. For the question of how your wife (or did not in your case) became Canadian, put "Not A Canadian Citizen", and in the certificate number put N/A. Make sure to put all of her other details in though, such as date of birth and place of birth; and where it asks if she hold other nationalities and how she acquired them (so if she was born in the US), put "United States, <her date of birth>, citizenship by birth". So just answer everything they highlighted before sending it back, and you should be fine this time.

Awesome, thank you Hawk! I'll fill in the missing bits and try again. Third time sending it in so I hope it works out this time.
