Hello everyone
I am living in Canada with open work permit valid till July,2018. I just recently got my passport with immigrant stamp ( valid till 23 June, 2018) and COPR. I have to go to India for attending few weddings! My question is am i allowed to do landing while coming back from India, as I m coming back to Vancouver. Or should I do landing and then go to india. Help will be very much appreciated!
Thank you!

Others can comment but why not given otherwise you would need to flagpole to activate your PR status and then given your PR card might take 6 weeks or so to arrive you would need to apply for a PRTD to return from India if card doesn’t arrive before you leave for India.

Would only add that given life and travel unpredictable and your COPR is only valid until June 2018 if were me my decision whether to flagpole first would be influenced by my date of travel. Having said that keep in mind applying for a PRTD can take a few weeks to obtain whilst outside Canada

Only thing to be aware of you would activate your PR at the first port of entry from India .

I have to go from 24 January, 2018 till 28 feb 2018
If you flagpole you will not have your PR card to enable you to board a plane back to Canada so you would need to apply for a PRTD which can have unpredictable processing time. Although given you are away for a month if you applied the moment you arrived you could I guess be OK but. I have no knowledge of average PRTD processing times in India.

If you take the option to activate on your return to Canada you use your COPR and passport as the authorisation to board a plane back as a new immigrant. As said you would activate your PR at the first port of entry where you need all the documentation required to complete the process.

As said others can comment as this is just my personal view and I can see no issue with activating on return from India, but ultimately decision is yours as you might feel more comfortable getting the landing completed before you go and apply for a PRTD or worst case back via US land border.

It’s your decision and your life whichever you feel best for you.

Hi @Ekum sidhu.

I am doing the same thing too.Actually I don't want to wait couple months more for the PR card so I am going to India as well and will do landing on my way back .
