study permit extension refused

Hello everyone,
Sadly I had my application for a study permit extension refused.
Reason for refusal is as below:
-Immigration Legislation requires that every foreign national in Canada must hold a valid passport, identity or travel document. As a foreign national in Canada, you have not produced evidence that you are in possession of such a document and that it is valid for the duration of your stay in Canada.
When I applied I was still in the process of renewing my passport so I wrote in my letter of explanation that I'd send them the cover of my new passport as soon as I receive it. I did that through the web form to request for case specific enquiries and I even got a automated confirmation email. (I applied with an almost expired passport for the sake of avoiding illegal stay in canada)
I have left Canada for summer break and I'm now back home.(Just received this update) In the letter I have been asked to restore my status. However, as I'm not in Canada is this what I'm supposed to do? Or do I simply apply for a new study permit? I'm worried that with the restoration taking so long I might not make it back for september on time. Also, it's a bit unusual that I've sent them my new passport photo and be denied for the same reason. Anyone with a similar experience?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Yes - it's because you left Canada. Restoration would only be an option if you had remained in Canada.

Restoration is not an option since you've left Canada. It doesn't matter if you have someone in Canada who can send you the permit.

Restoration can easily take 2-4 months - so definitely not fast by any means.

But again, not an option for you. You have no choice but to apply for a new study permit.

Thank you for your detailed response, I understand now. However, would I need to make changes to things such as SIN or credit history?

After completing one year course If i want to study further in an another 1 or 2 yr program i have to apply for study permit extension or have to apply to embassy all the way again like we do in home country.
