Crossing border on foot at Niagara

Hi,

I am a new PR, landing done and am expecting my PR card in end of December. After landing I had to travel back to the US where I am currently located.
I would like to travel to Canada late November or early December. I understand one of my options is a PRTD, but I would like to hear some thoughts about crossing the road border at Niagara.
I do not have the option to drive over from US to Canada, since I have only driven in India, never in the US or Canada. I was wondering if I can cross over on foot by showing Passport+COPR. Would it be feasible to take a bus to Niagra, cross the border by foot, and then another bus to Toronto? I would have 2 heavy suitcases with me.

Yes, it is perfectly fine to take a bus to the border and enter Canada on foot.

Why don't you fly?

I would need a PR travel document to fly or take a direct bus to Toronto. I am assuming 2 - 3 weeks of processing time for that, so it doesn't really serve my purpose. I need to be in Canada by the end of November, if not I just wait for my PR card.

Any thoughts on how I could handle the luggage part, I would have 2 suitcases and am traveling alone. Would it be feasible to drag them across the border, complete formalities and then board the next bus to Toronto?

I don't know about the American side. But crossing the rainbow bridge itself with two rolling suitcases shouldn't be too bad. Not a long walk. At the border, having suitcases is fine. Just explain what you are doing/where you are coming from. I would recommend to then get a cab from the Canadian side (easy, the bridge is right in the centre of Niagara) to the bus stop. A bit far to walk with two suitcases, I think.

you can cross the border by foot, just need passport and a valid CoPR. you can not cross the border using commercial buses, you can rent a car.

I would be flying to Buffalo New York and from the airport, I will rent a taxi that will take me to Niagara Falls, the Canada side. At the border, I will show my COPR and Passport and cross into Canada. What do you guys think?

I spoke to a taxi company and they do have service to Canada from Buffalo New York. This takes out the complication of me having to drive, or the luggage issue or even the weather (which is going to be brutal)

One related question.. is it okay to first landing this way? Can taxis drop people near the Canadian port of entry and vice versa? Is it advisable to do landing with 21mo toddler in this mode during early March when winter is in peak season?

Yes, you can do your first landing this way. Whether to do it is entirely your decision.

Thanks. Does Uber take people across border or it has to be a local taxi? Also what should be the destination for taxi for landing purposes? Should it be CBSA Canada or something else?
