HI,
I am currently working with Canadian company in Ahmedabad, India. My company wants to sponsor me for PR and would pay about CA$50,000 PA + Accomodation.
Can anyone guide me about what will be my net take home with above yearly package.
I am coming with family (spouse and two children). My elder son will go to grade I school there.

I would like to know how much earning would be required to live a descent middle class life in Montreal.

Thanks

I believe it would be around 39k$ net income.

In my opinion that is not enough if you have family unless they are going to work. You may get other opinions, I just said what I think.

I agree with APPNOV2014NY. Since your accommodation will be paid, the salary will be at least OK-ish. If your job is unionized, it will reduce the take-home income by a couple of percent on top of everything else.

Your net monthly salary will probably be around 3000$ , (36k or 37k yearly as others said), but this can vary depending on some factors (family etc...). Its a decent salary ... especially for a start here.

And as @APPNOV2014NY said, the keyword here is accomodation...if it's paid you're saving at least 800$ per month (typical rent for a 4,1/2 appartment).

Medical is free, but there are things which are not covered in the health care like dental, a private group insurance from your employer will reduce that amount by 80%, the private group plan with your employer may cost 200$/month.

Internet unlimited costs 90$
Cell Phones : 40 - 75$ (Koodo and Fido cheapest)
Purchases except raw food : 15% sales tax.
Monthly metro travel pass: 80$

When you say your employer provides accommodation, if possible check its address, there are many many badly maintained apartments in Montreal, cold, drafty, noisy. So if you can find the address, do some research on that accommodation area. Also make sure its accommodation only or heating/water/stove/fridge included.

You said you have 2 kids. They can be admitted to French only schools. Thats the law in Quebec. Other option is to send them to private English schools which will cost a hell lot of money, which I think you cannot afford with the salary.
So they need to grasp French immediately for their school and you won't be able to help them with their homework.

Hello Cherti,
Thanks for a very informative guidance.

I have one confusion regarding schooling. On one of the blog i read that kids of WP holders are considered temporary residents and get some exemptions from French learning in public schools.
The post mentioned that the child is given English medium of instruction for 2 years(WP expiry) for main subjects and French is taught as second language. Additionally, history subject is taught in French.
After WP, if one receives PR status, complete education medium becomes French.

Pardon me if my knowledge is incorrect. If someone can throw light on this issue, it will be helpful.

Correction here if you are coming on work permit and entitled to send kids to English Board there are 2 English boards which admits folks and shouldn't be an issue ...
