For all those who sent their applications today oct 11 2017 what mistakes did you make?

Same here.. read over 3 times.. until I found what was going to be a mistake.

Question 13: declare other immigration/citizenship status (other than Canada). Almost forgot to indicate current citizenship (originating country). While a small discrepancy, could be a technicality for which they return the app.

Like all the others mentioned... read, re-read, re-read and check again before sending.

Yes, this one is kind of confusing .. for your country of birth, ofcourse you are citizen by birth .. so the start/effective date would be your birth day, correct ..since you would technically be a citizen of your home country by birth ? not the date of passport issue .. because passports can be attained at any time, or never if you never travel abroad ..

Either way should be fine, no need to overthink this... btw I paper-clipped my main form but stapled my residence calculator printout lol
My cousin has an OCD, he clipped and then stapled the forms like 100 time. He is now re-printing again. He messed up the forms. We shall not overthink

There is no wrong or even recommended because it is not on thier guide.

I forgot to put tax years in :( I thought it was just asking for past 5 tax years. So I just checked yes to everything :(

I hope they understand what past 5 'previous years' are and not return it cause i didnt specify to them that the past 5 years are 2016,2015.....

Hey Guys,

Do I need to attach my Tax returns for the past years or not? I assume CIC will reach out to CRA to get all my Tax.

Also should I check Yes or No for Required to File and Taxed File?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Correct. You would note when you obtained status.. so if you were automatically a citizen by birth, then you would note that. Passport is just a travel document and can change over time. Also though, if you became a citizen of another country, then you would include that, as well as your immigration status such as being a student or temp worker (in whatever country).

Was not confusing at all. It is called citizenship by birth. So it was clear. The toughest question was 9C.

You don't need to attach tax returns.. you would answer the question in the form that authorizes IRCC to contact CRA and obtain records on their own. Second, short of being unemployed or some special exemption status, you would need to file taxes for the time you've been working. So depending on your employment/status.. probably like most of us.. you would check required for filing and then check yes/no for if you've done it. Just my opinion.

You have literally made it up. It isn't stated anywhere that you need to be eligible under the old regs the day before. The only requirement is to have 1095 days of VALID residency the day before you submit your application & the IRCC residency calculator makes this determination.
The plain English meaning of the statement on the citizenship application and in the Instructions can easily be construed to mean that one must be eligible under the old rules, if those were the rules that applied the day before the application was signed. While this may be an incorrect interpretation, it is, nonetheless, a correct interpretation of the plain English meaning of the statement.

Do not get angry at people who have interpreted the statement to mean what it, in fact, says, just correct them patiently. The fault is not on the applicant, but on IRCC for having chosen unclear and ambiguous phraseology.

I left both YES and NO unchecked for these two items until realizing it this morning
Thank god that I saw this - went to UPS right away and got the envelope back, fixed the sheet with this problem, checked again and gave it to UPS.

Even I have checked 4-5 times before sending it, I still overlooked this. Fortunately it is not too late...

Many millions of people are not citizens of the country of their birth.

He posted the same message in 5 threads - even after being corrected the first time. I'll stick with how I feel.

er, on question 11, i filed out the table properly, but I only ticked YES to the applicable ones (2), and did NOT tick NO for the inapplicable ones... dang. I really hope that it is not returned based on that. I like to think of my case as a really straight-forward one (been here since 2003 as a student, worker, resident, married here, etc) with ample residence time, canadian education, all taxes filed, provincial licence to practise, no real absences etc...
