Mossad , hey ! just read your post. wanted to know if we are on the same boat, I am trying to reach cic but they are taken. I moved to Canada on july 9th 2014 as a PR , prior this I was in the states and I had to submit my fbi background check. knowing that I have always lived in Canada since I have made the move(I did travel in the states here and there but no more than 2 weeks), do you or anyone knows if I have to re-submit a new fbi background check ?
Up to the new forms and the cic guy, unfortunately yes we have to. I did the same I provided them one and they did background check on me before I come to Canada (May 2014) when they were processing my pr application! I don't know why we have to to go through all this again! Anyway I'll be eligible to submit my application without police check by Nov 1st. And you by January 07 2018.

Hey Mossad,
I am confused about the following part : I'll be eligible to submit my application without police check by Nov 1st. And you by January 07 2018
Why do you mean by this ? There is a period in which we don`t have to submit any fbi background doc ? I guess I misread your original post, I though you didn`t have to submit any fbi doc, but I figured to ask if you were in the same situation. For folks who reside in the states, ordering your fbi check is faster than if you reside overseas like us.

Let's make it simple.
I've been here in Canada as a PR since May 1st 2014, by Nov 1st 2017 I'll be here in Canada for 3 years and a half. Which means for the last 4 years I was out of Canada for less than 183 days (6months) then I don't need to submit a police record check.
The new form asks for police check if your were out of Canada for 183 days or more within the 4 years before you sign your application.

no just wait until you get an actual answer from someone who knows. worst case we will do it...we will get that passport (lol) when it`s meant.
When did you get your permanent residence! And did you leave Canada last 4 years?!

Got ya !!now I understand...I think in your case then, you should wait because on Novber 1st , you won`t need to submit anything. in my case, I should jst order the fbi background check ..I might get it bfore who knows. good luck

And i spoke to the CIC agent as well, you need a police certificate if u spent 183 days in any country in that 4 year window!

Guys in our situation have four options:

(1.) Postpone applying for Canadian citizenship until our cumulative days in the US is definitely less than the stipulated 183 days in the previous 48 months.

(2.) Apply for Canadian citizenship with a recent FBI clearance letter attached.

(3.) Apply for Canadian cotizenship and hope that CIC/IRCC will just reference back to our old pre-PR FBI clearance.

(4.) Apply for Canadian citizenship, and in the mean time also apply for an FBI clearance which one can send along later to whichever office one's CIC/IRCC case file is sent to from Sydney for processing.

I'm going with option (2.).

What I understood from you that you got ur pr July 2014. Then you will be eligible to apply with no fbi check unless you can get this paper before January

Exactly. Moved to Canada on July 9th 2014. ever since , I have been here in Canada but as u know, bfore coming here, submitted my fbi background check as a requirement for the Canadian PR. As of today, I am eligible to apply for the Citizenship, but they are talking about the 183 days within d four years...on there website, they have mentioned a few example of being outside of Canada ...but again I don`t see the point of submitting a fbi form knowing it was already submitted from the country I was living before. If I had moved in Europe or somewhere else aside the states where I stayed 183 days ...ok at that point, I would understand that I do need a fbi check. this is the part I don`t understand...it`s repetitive what they are asking ...and again stupid (not saying anything bad). Just following logic...
