There is no legal requirement to inform IRCC of your travels. That is a suggestion only, although it may be in your interest to avoid missing mail, appointments, etc.

So, there is no legal requirement to inform them of being charged or moving either? Why bother listing it on the website if it is only a suggestion.

I would highly advise though to inform them. If they send you an invitation for a test and you cannot attend you will have to explain why. At this point it begs the question why you had not informed them beforehand.

As said, informing them did not cause me any issues.

If you are certain that you receive all their messages and you are sure you can and want to come back for a test, then you do not necessarily need to inform them, but then, it did work for me.

You'd have to ask them about that. But I assume its mostly a mechanism to prevent lost mail, missed appointments, etc. This has nothing to do with being charged with a crime or changing your residential address.

You obviously missed the point I was making. If, informing CIC of being charged and or changing address is equally important to be listed, it stand to reason that informing them of leaving Canada for more than 2 weeks is just as important.

I have couple of questions here, Was your father sick before you have applied ? Is your father would be OK if you haven't applied yet? The reason I was asking that ,no matter what is the situation, you go to your home country if your father is seriously ill. Forget about the citizenship . It shouldnt be matter if you get it or not.
Father or mother illness rate is significantly higher after citizenship application than before. Seems like we have to start praying for new bill when you have to wait 40 yrs before citizenship application then plenty of our parents wont become sick for next 40 years.
This is the most disgusting and immature reply I have ever seen in this forum.

I really don't understand what you want to say here.

Sometimes life unfolds in a strange way where we are not able to decide what to do. We make plans about our future and start working on those plans and then something else happens.

This person knows his situation better than you. You don't need to give your judgements about his situation. Just answer what he has asked for, if you have the answer.

Who are you to tell him whether he should go home or not or whether he should apply or not.

You should have empathy towards others.

This forum is about helping each other and not criticizing others on their decisions.

And by the way, you need to work on your English skills also.

While Jee876's post is not of your liking, he/she does have a point. He / she is basically saying, your parents, your children, or any family members' health and wellbeing are more important than getting / applying for citizenship.

How would you feel if you came across a person who would rather stay in Canada to meet citizenship requirements than to fly home to look after his / her parents in their time of need when their son or daughter is needed most. Every PR got a lifetime to qualify for citizenship, seriously illed parents don't.

My point is that we don't know the OP's situation, about what he is going through. May be he is not in a situation to go back home. May be he has a family over here, may be he has a lot of debt/mortgage that he cannot let go, may be he has school going kids over here. After spending so many years here in Canada, its not easy to move back the entire family, especially with kids it is very difficult because they forget their language, they are adapted to the way of life/schooling here. They are just not able to cope with totally different school system back home. I can tell you this because I tried to move back few years ago and my child got into severe depression, he was just not able to cope and he developed lot of health issues, so I had to move back here.

Or maybe OP is thinking that once he get the citizenship he can go home and stay there for long time and care for his parents and he does not have to worry about losing his PR status. There can be any number of situations in OP's life that we don't know.

The point here is that we have no right to comment (or give generalized comment) on anybody's personal situation without knowing all the details. We are here only to answer other member's questions regarding his/her application. We should strictly stick to that only. No need to get into anybody's personal life.

Agree, people are a little paranoiac on that forum, like we are living in nazi Canada of something like that and you are not allowed to leave :)
You are really free to leave after citizenship application, just keep ties in Canada and everything will goes well !!

I didn't miss your point at all. You are not required to inform them of a trip lasting more than two weeks. You are required to inform them if you catch a charge or change your residential address --both of which potentially affect the substantive processing of your application. Informing them about leaving on a trip (do they even differentiate between a trip inside and outside of Canada?) is an administrative courtesy/convenience to avoid missed correspondence, etc.

There is a huge difference between leaving Canada after submitting application for a vacation as compare to leaving to live and work outside Canada while awaiting citizenship. The latter is called "applying for citizenship on their way to airport". The intend to reside clause under C-24 was meant to address this sore issue. So yes you are right. Every PR is free to leave after citizenship application even under C-24 bill.

If you are not required to inform them, by all means call CIC to remove it from the website. Until then, it has equal importance as the other two.

You do realize that if you missed your correspondence and fail to reply by a deadline, due to not informing them of your absent in Canada, CIC can view your missed response as abandoning your application and thus can close the application. That sound pretty serious, don't you think?

yes legally u CAN, but NOT recommended unless it's emergency family matter and u must tell citizenship judge u was away and u never know how good or bad is that judge.

But I would stay stay stay put until get it just to avoid authority's questions.
