How different are the online tests to the real deal?

So i've been using every practice test website under the sun and I thought I had it in DA BAG as I've been passing all of them.

It's worth mentioning that I only had 4 days to study for this test as I had... some previous engagements. However, I already had a very very basic level of knowledge with some of the topics.

So here is the main problem.

I've heard from friends that the online tests are a cake walk to the real thing. Is that true?

Been using richmond library, v-soul to study.

Thanks!

I wouldn't say the real test is easier. If you can answer all the questions in the Richmond library practice tests then you will pass the test. The questions are more or less exactly the same and the same difficulty.

Read the official Discover Canada book multiple times. That is the key to passing the exam. Online free tests help you learn the information however don't rely on them fully in order to pass the test.

Online tests help. Lots of questions on the real test are very similar to the ones that appear on the online Richmond library...

But then there would always be new questions that were from the book and seem to be so different from the ones
you are used to seeing. It would be probably something you could have easily answered if you had read the book
just a few more times... sometimes you feel it's on this page, but don't remember the details.

So always good to read the book several times over just the day before the test over and above doing several online tests...

UPDATE

I had the test today- got 20/20. Finished in 5 minutes.

Some tips for future test takers:

In my opinion, It was easy for someone to pass as most of the questions weren't super obscure or specific. There was one, maybe two questions that I remember reading in the book but was not 100% sure about. The rest were incredibly easy because if you are familiar with the book, you'll be able to begin a process of elimination. In fact, i'm pretty sure I saw some questions online that were harder than the questions on my particular test.

HOWEVER, with that being said, please listen to the posters above: reading the book really is the key. And when I say read it, I mean actively reading and absorbing the information, not just giving a casual peruse. I'd recommend reading the book like that back to front around 3 times. Don't go overboard and try to memorize all the dates like I did. Just some major ones should suffice.

I'm going to admit I don't actually remember what the citizenship agent told me in regards to when I will be mailed the oath because, at that point, I was still in shock at how I could have gotten all of the questions right, which surpassed my expectations of passing. I do still have the info sheet which says the date of oath will be mailed to me in a few months!

Good luck to everyone!

It is not very different, but there are some questions that they twist and has 2 right answers.

Just do the questions online and read the history part in discover canada book and you will be fine.

if you read my update, you can see that I've already done the test. I did my test in the BC region and there was only one answer to every question.

Congratulations!! One more step closer to being a Canadian eh? :D :D :D

That's what I did too! I mean the process of elimination. I answered the ones that I am confident I know the answer to....which was exactly 16 ;D ;D....so the other 4 was just to make sure I passed it! But I got 20/20 as well.

That's what we keep advising those who are about to take the test....READ (and understand) DISCOVER CANADA BOOK.....plain and simple. No need to spend money to buy any apps. No need to panic either! I know it can be stressful, but if we can all do it,why can't anyone else?

Congratulations on passing your test!

I must disagree with one point you made. Although reading the book is ideal, I don't think it's key to passing the test.

I did not read the book at all and just did practice tests online and I got 20/20 and finished it in 4 minutes. I think doing the online practice tests is more helpful and maybe read over the book to relate the practice tests to the book.

There's a lot of information in the book which doesn't come up in any tests and I didn't think it will be helpful to memorize alot of information which wasn't necessary. Focusing on the tests and being able to get 100% on the online tests was more beneficial.

I think reading the book will organize ideas in the mind. Doing online questions will make the person closer to specific questions might be in the exam.

I disagree. Official Discover Canada guide is the key to passing the test. The test comes from the book. All you have to do is read it carefully and also the captions/quotes. I read book many times, downloaded and listened to the audio guide couple of times. Did online free practice tests and during the date of the test, the questions were indirect which means it did not match the exact questions like those free online tests. As I read the book carefully, that's how i was able to answer the questions which I have memorized from the book. I got 20/20

I agree that reading online free tests can help you learn and memorize the information however a person should not rely on the online tests to pass the test. There are different sets of exams and you are lucky enough to get a easy one which may coincidentally matched with the free online tests you have done.

Sorry to reply against you
I know and I agree you have excellent and better knowledge than me
But please do get me wrong

The book you are talking is too big and hard to remember everything
But if do practice from few online site ( specially Richmond library) it is very easy to pass

From your all previous reply it is easy to understand that you have excellent knowledge in English

Same time I want to tell you ,my sister she will taken her citizenship test soo but her English is so poor .

She took two years to get CELPIP LS test 4 each .

So if she read official book to pass the test for sure she will fail .

So I think for her or same standard English availability knowledge people should only concentrate online test .

I am soot if my reply and understanding is incorrect.

Thanks
