Hi all,

I understand that I need to provide the immigration officer with a Canadian address when I land so that they can send me my PR card. I know I can just wait and update my address later, but the process to get the card is long enough as it is, so I wouldn't want to delay it any further. Some people have mentioned that The UPS Store has mailboxes that one can get in order to have a Canadian address even before landing, but I was wondering if anyone knows of other options. I could swear I had seen something about businesses offering this service to new immigrants (they can even forward the card to you when it arrives) but I can't find that anywhere. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi - Congratulations on becoming a PR.

Immigration services are becoming more and more picky about those kind of matters because they have seen a lot and they are exposed to so many cases that they actually can differentiate between a real address and one provided for convenience. In the past, people were able to claim living in Canada and never visit the country. there has been so many crackdowns on this in recent years that fraud or strange matters have become quite impossible and even if one gets away with things, immigration services will catch it somewhere along the way when citizenship is applied for or when PR card is renewed, etc.

Not saying that this is what you want to do but providing such an address to immigration services will certainly raise a lot of attention and you will become scrutinized every time you need to adjust something on your case.

the purpose of extending a PR status is to live in Canada, so immigration services will become very tough to handle if they have the slightest doubt that the person is using PR stats for convenience purposes and one of those doubts can start by the type of address you provide (and yes trust me they check).

So my recommendation is to provide them with a correct residential address where you plan on living when you come and settle here for good.

Thank you for your response, Saga. Since I do not have a job in Calgary yet, I don't know where I will live (I want to live close to whatever job I find), so I won't have an address by the time I land. I'm looking into reserving an Airbnb for about a month to give me a place to stay while I find a job and an apartment. I guess I could give the immigration officer the address for my airbnb and even show them the printed reservation. Or would that be unacceptable as well?

Airbnb address is fine. PO box is not. Lawyer's address is not.

You won't get your PR card after at least 2 months.

Sounds good, thank you, mary. It sounds like I'll just use my Airbnb then.

To second Mary's note, you might not get the PR card as fast as mentioned on IRCC's website. I got mine 8 months later when they told me it will only take 45 days. So you should brace for some outcomes. I think they are being fast now and you won't wait 8 months but you will also not get it as fast as advertised on their website

check PR card delivery time on cic website it always be changing in every week. mine was showing when i applied 89 days but i get it in 42 days in UPS mail box
