Hi,

I am from the Philippines, and just got our visas. We are presently making preparations for our departure to Manitoba.

Would you have an idea where to get discounted tickets? Is there such thing? Is it true that its cheaper to purchase tickets in Canada than in the country where one is presently located?

I hope you can provide feedback asap. Thanks all!

There is no Discounted Ticket generally for new Immigrants and you will face more hassles with tickets bought out of the Philippines

Hi...

I travel a lot and in my last holiday to London last December, I noticed that If I booked the ticket in the UK or if my sister buys it there, it would have been cheaper. We are meeting again in Singapore (london- Sing_ Manila) Next week and she took Singapore Airlines and paid less than Php 45K round trip. If I book the same flight (Manila Sing London) i will probably spend more than 70K for it.

I am not sure why that is the case.

When my cousins immigrated to canada, their mom bought the tickets in Canada. She just arranged for the tickets to be picked up here in the Cathay office in Manila... everything was fine.

If ever, i plan to do the same.

hope this helps.

That is correct,You just have to pay the travel tax at the airport ,since no travel tax is included in foreign tickets, sometimes the staff is not there and you have to wait a bit,but you can save that way

its always cheaper to buy your tickets from your country of origin. if you are departing from manila its cheaper to buy in manila. reverse direction tickets are more expensive.

visit airlines website from time to time, they sometimes offer the last minute seat sales. If travelling to Winnipeg, visit westjet or air canada websites.

I know this is an old topic, but it appears in google none the less. I found this site, but I do not know how legit it is, use at own risk:

http://www.iom.int/concession-fares

They seem to give big discounts for immigrants. Discounted fares, extra baggage etc.

As a side note, when I immigrated, Westjet gave me one bag free when I asked at Check-in. I had 4 bags, and they only charged for 3.
