Hey all,

Sponsoring my American wife and organizing the proof of relationship section. I think it is fairly solid...wedding photos, 3-4 photos from each year of our relationship (2009-now), phone records, facebook messages and flights. I have a question, however, about the travel information.

1) can we use the emailed itineraries as proof of travel? we do not have many of the actual tickets, those that we do have are faded and unreadable, and our passports were not stamped very often. We do have a number of the itineraries.

2) I have visited her at least 20 times and she has been here at least 15 times. I, however, only have proof of 8 trips and she can only show 10. Should we just explain that we simply did not keep records of them?

The itineraries should be fine.

I think you'll be fine with what you have. As a US/Canadian couple, the burden of proof is quite low. Given your history, from 2009 to now, I don't think you'll have any problems, even if you don't have proof for each and every visit.

We didn't have any of our flight tickets saved, but fortunately never delete emails and were able to retain all our flight itineraries that way and submitted them all with our application.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. You two been married for 6 years that is plenty long. Very few people will fake a marriage for 6 years just so that the spouse can go to Canada especially when you wife is an American. If your wife worked in a professional capacity, she can go to Canada any time under NAFTA anyway.

Hi,

My husband(Canadian citizen) is sponsoring myself(American citizen). I'm now temporarily living in Canada under the SWAP visa but before, I lived in Buffalo, NY and he lived in Toronto. We would simply just cross one of the bridges to get to each other and they don't stamp passports or show any proof of this. We must've crossed to see each other over 100 times each over the course of our relationship before I moved.

How would I show proof of visits...? I have lots of proof in the form of hotel receipts from vacations together, photos, wedding cards, birthday cards, etc.

Considering the cities you both lived and how close they are, the officer will understand that you would have driven across the border and therefore have no itineraries or stamps to prove this. You are a Canadian/American couple, it should be pretty straightforward. The proof you mentioned will show that you were together in person. You could also add chats or text messages discussing your upcoming road trips to each other. Good luck!

Yeah, I would hope common sense would come into play, but you never know.

I'll provide as much proof as I can!

Thanks!!

Not married for 6 years, in a relationship for 6. We've been married for almost a year now.

In addition to the other suggestions, you could also submit both of your travel histories from the CBSA. If they show lots of entries into Canada at the same place and time, the conclusion will be obvious. Regardless, they will show lots of travel between the two countries.

That being said, the likelihood of attracting serious scrutiny appears low in your case, so it's probably not worth the 30-day wait if that would delay your application. It could be useful later on the off-chance you were asked to submit additional documentation of your relationship. There is also a U.S. travel history that takes even longer to get.

It says on CBSA website that you do not need the travel history for PR applications. Checking yes to "question E section 3" of the application will give the immigration officer permission to attain the travel history.

You can use any proof you like that you've travelled together. If the best way to do that is to use the travel history, then you're permitted to do that.

Which form are you talking about?
