To All who appeared on this day , Please Share your Experience about the exam and update your Result expected on 13th May.

Myself, I am the guy who interrupted and raised the question to start the Listening Section 1 all over again. And they agreed. LOL

Listening:

No doubt there were many technical glitches at the start of Listening audio. I found it to be beneficial as it gave me the time to go through all the sections. While, my friend found it distracting.
Normally they say, you will hear the conversation for once and all. LOL
But personally, I found the Listening section a bit tough compared to my previous attempts. Or may be my concentration level was not the best on that day.

Reading:
Not my best attempt, although I am confident to score good, but cud not find time to revisit my answers at the end.

Writing:
Well I prepared a lot for this section and completed task two with extra sheet. However, I ended up short of time in Task 1 which hampered my letter conclusion. But overall, this was my best performance in writing.

Speaking:
I am confident to score the required marks in this test. But in the 2 min topic, I spoke way over on one idea of the topic and elaborated it in depth and also missed out to address other points of the topic. So that cud lower my band but not enough to take me ineligible.

My expected score:
L - 7.5 or 8.0; (Fingers crossed for Listening)
R - 7.0 or 8.5;
S - 7.0 ;
W- 7.0; (Fingers crossed for Writing)

Guys - a quick question

I took the IELTS exam on 30th April and I am not sure if my results are going to turn out in my favor. That said, would it be ok if I re-appear for another test in June? My question is- if the June test results turn out to be worse than April test scores, can I still use my April test scores to apply for EE? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can use the any test result for EE, provided its not expired (24 months from test date).

My expected score:
L - 7.5 or 8.0; (Fingers crossed for Listening)
R - 7.0 or 8.5;
S - 7.0 ;
W- 7.0; (Fingers crossed for Writing)

I got the Result today:
L - 8.5
R - 8.0
S - 7.0
W - 6.5 (FAILED)

I am frustrated by re-taking IELTS but got no other option.
I have scored 7 band once in Writing. But on that attempt I missed out on Speaking (6.5).

Any suggestions or links for Writing improvement will be highly appreciated.

My expected scores were:

R - 8.5
L - 8
W - 7.5
S - 7.5

My actual scores:

R - 9
L - 9
W - 8.5
S - 7.5

Thankfully, it puts me at or above the highest needed scores for Express Entry. However, I'm wondering if I should request for a retest for the Speaking section. It would help in case I decide to apply for Australian Immigration, but I haven't made up my mind yet...

I scored an 8.5 in writing. I can suggest a couple of things:

1) Use ielts-simon.com to prepare. I am sure that his tips helped me score at least a band higher than I would have otherwise scored. Go through the General Writing and the Writing Task 2 categories and watch his free videos.

2) Once you are sure that you have absorbed everything that he has to say, send your practice essays for evaluation. I used the service provided by Simon's colleague at http s://theieltscorrectioncentre.wordpress.com/essay-marking-service/, but you could use another one (like the one at ieltsadvantage.com). Make sure that you are consistently rated higher than the score you're aiming for.

All the best!

+1 for links

I envy you mate, you have got a brilliant score. Thanks for sharing the links.

Actually I practised a lot on the IELTS answer sheets and got it evaluated from my brother.

If possible, please also share your evaluated essays (word.doc) copies with me. It will help me to assess my level of writing.

I gave the test twice and came up short 6.5 on writing both the times.Rest of them all I got above CLB 9. I am really frustrated and cannot make up my mind what to do next.
IDP is really testing my patience man. What should I do ? I am thinking of Enquiry on Result(EOR) this time. Hopefully it will increase.

If I need to take the test again. I'll try out British Council. I am done with IDP.

Hi Aditya,

Looks like we hav got similar IELTS results and issues.

I have decided against remark bcos
first the policy is against the applicant as they have to return the hefty fees in order to raise marks,
secondly it takes too much time (around 2 months) for revaluation, and
lastly since we have been getting same score of 6.5 consistently, therefore, there seems to be no variance. Infact we have not been able to identify our mistakes.

So I am going to use the amount to appear in two IELTS exams this time, both IDP & BC.
I am going to work on Writing with the help of new sources I found out through the forums. People who scored 8-9 writing shared good sources.

If you are interested to team up to work & practice together , let me know. We can help each other to remain focused and motivated.

Best of Luck.

Hi Kadian,

Thanks for your suggestions. Even though their policy is against us I need to give it a shot.
I would in the mean time also prepare as I need to have certain amount of time(1 month for sure) to assess my writing.
I also need to take care not to screw up Reading,Listening and Speaking as well.

If I have to take the test on British council you know the slot is not available in India for the next 2 months.
I am not sure how IDP hyderabad is rating the writing task and if any senior examiner of EOR tells me the same that I am
not good at writing then I would confirm that it's my fault.

The important thing is to get it evaluated from an IELTS teacher or examiner. As Simon mentions in his post titled "IELTS Advice: why many teachers get it wrong", there is a difference between English taught at schools and what you're expected to write in IELTS.

If possible, please also share your evaluated essays (word.doc) copies with me. It will help me to assess my level of writing.

Hi all,

I am new on the board. I have also the most expected result today i.e. R-9, L-8 , S-7 and W-6.5. Not happy with the result at all as it does not fulfill my requirements.

I am also thinking for filling reval. Do you think EOR would help?

My scores are L/R/W/S - 5.5/6.5/6.5/6.5
Test - IDP, Chennai, India
Date - 30 Apr 2016

I am quite convinced with Writing & Speaking marks. But Listening i didn't expect 5.5 (which is relatively about 22 right out of 40 questions).

Reading I expected 8 bands but scored only 6.5 which is a huge disappointment.

Is there anyone who feels they have been marked low compared to their expectation?
