Great question! The good news is, yes. Indian law forbids it to send outside Indian borders to other countries due to possibility of forgeries and security threats IMO. Ottawa is within North America. You will be just fine. Trying to change it to some US VO will unnecessarily delay the process by a few weeks.

Good to know that information. If I can enclose a self-addressed FedEx/UPS/USPS envelope and track it both ways, I wont be too much concerned. Gives some peace of mind

Hey folks. I have some years left on H1 and would like to use them if possible. Does any have any experience/pointers/threads wherein people have returned to work in the US after doing a PR landing ?

Some of my questions are:
What do you tell the Canada immigration officials when you show up for landing?
What do you tell US officials if you return to the US?
What is your tax situation like?

I do not anticipate any problems. People do "short landing" all the time, where they land in Canada for a few days to a few weeks just to finalize their PR and obtain their PR card. In terms of returning to the US, it will all depend on your status. If you are still employed by a US company and your H1B is still valid, there shouldn't be any problems either.

Thanks! Right now it seems the PR card takes 49 days to process. Do most people just stay in Canada during this time or is it possible to leave without getting the PR card?

If you are doing a short landing, you can leave Canada without your PR card. However, you will have to provide a Canadian address where they can mail it to you. If you have a family member or a very close friend who you can trust, you can provide immigration with their address and once they receive it, they can mail it to you wherever you are.

I did exactly that. Landed last week in Toronto. In one of the forms that you are going to give to the landing officer, it says you are entering Canada with the intention to stay at least 12 months. God news is, since you already sign this, they don't really ask you if you are going to stay or go back.

I came back to the US this week and nobody asked any questions. The only question was from Air Canada check in personnel asking if I am resident of the US and I said yes. But other than that, nothing.

How is a degree and work experience from US valued in Canada? I heard it could be a bit difficult to find a job for new comers because they like people with work experience in Canada.

It could be true but there are smarter ways to sell ourselves in the job market. So, I personally wouldn't worry too much about it
