$15 / hour is more like $2500 per month (before tax).

$4000 a month? A survival job??
This sounds more like an average wages in Canada.

Remember that $11.25 per hour is the minimum wage in ON
I suggest you take a look at the jobs at jobbank.gc.ca, monster.ca, indeed.ca, etc.
and see for yourself how much a job that you are willing to do earns

Once you arrived in Canada, I believe that you will know how to struggling and earn more money for yourself and family.:) for the beginning, $15/hr in Toronto is not so bad.

Welcome to Canada.:)

hi pie_vancouver,

nice to meet you. After I saw your status, I am interesting about the procedure to get your canadian citizenship. Please see my questions as below.

1) Can you please share your timeline start from the date you apply for citizenship?
2) You became Canada PR on 2010 and you became citizen on 2014? That mean after you stay 4 years in Canada, you straight away apply for citizenship instead of renew your PR ?
3) I notice that when you start apply your citizenship, your residency status is not even 4 years (date of your citizenship application 8-Nov-2013). That mean you citizenship application include processing time then you can fulfill 4 years for citizenship application right (Because your processing time is more than 11 months from 8-Nov-2013 to 14-Oct-2014)?
4) What kind of test do you need to prepare to apply for citizenship?

I am currently a canada PR (date became PR:28-Sept-2015) and still outside of canada now. But I will come to canada around feb-2017 (after 1 year and 5 months later) and I am worry that I need to fulfill 2 years residency status to apply PR. My wife and my baby will only follow to me after 2 years (that mean they still have 3 more years to fulfill residency status). Please advice me. Thanks.

Regards,
Myat

- You need to post your question to the citizenship section of the forum or the PR obligation section of the forum
- pie_vancouver applied for citizenship under the old rules where the residency requirement was 3 out of 4 years and pre-PR time could be counted. The residency requirement is different now. Processing times were different then too. pie_vancouver experiences won't apply to you.

If you have any experience in customer service I would suggest trying to get a job in a hotel. The fancier the brand, higher the pay.

For example, I worked in a pretty good brand of hotels, comparable to the Marriott, in Ottawa for 6 years as a front desk agent and by the time I left I was making about 18$ per hour. I think the starting rate was around 16$ per hour.

After that I worked in a less fancy hotel, but still made 15$ per hour.

You don't need degrees or diplomas for this job. You just need to be friendly and efficient. Jobs as bell boys in hotels are pretty good too. Your starting wage would be a little less but cash tips are what makes it worth while.

Most hotels are unionized, meaning that if you have a full time position, you are also eligible for benefits after your probation period which is usually 3-6 months. In a unionized place, a dishwasher can earn close to 20$ per hour. I am not joking.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
