How to get my Ukrainian Partner to Canada?

Hello everyone:

I have quite complicatedly fallen in love with a Ukrainian. I read previous posts from 2008 here - however the situation in Ukraine has changed due to Maidan and war - so I think old info may be irrelevant. Anyway, I hope to bring my partner to Canada. We have been together for nearly a year, I have spent tons of time in Ukraine, and I am trying to document everything (emails/tickets/etc.)

What I understand (in terms of getting my Ukrainian to Canada with me) is that there are 3 options:

1) Refugee status - which can take years and my partner can never visit home again (at least for a long time) = not an option
2) Marriage In Ukraine - and then one must apply for PR abroad, and once we get it, my partner can work quite quickly once in Canada = could be slow?
3) Marriage In Canada - but it's very very hard to get Ukrainians who are no Oligarchs travel visas to North America due to Visa Regimes = seems impossible

Can anyone who has recently gotten their Ukrainian partner into Canada assist me on this? The other complication is my partner has served in an official army in 2015, so Ukraine may hold on to my partner excessively, with the hopes of throwing my partner back into war if Russia stirs up the pot a bit more. This element creates some level of urgency in our case, as I am worried for my partner's safety.

1) Refugee won't fly. There are plently of perfectly safe places to live in Ukraine. Don't even bother considering this option.
2) This is the most likely option.
3) Agreed this is less likely since it will be difficult to get an approved TRV. However you can certainly try to get a TRV - there's always a chance you may be approved.

I would recommend you post your questions regarding options #2 and #3 to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum.

Agree with scylla

Don't even risk applying for refugee status :-\

Try option 3, just apply for tourist visa or maybe a student visa, if that doesn't work I guess option 2 is a way to go.

And yes, this forum is about refugees, so please post in Family Sponsorship
