I'm in the same boat. I landed on December 6th and am travelling to the UK for a couple of weeks on 13th March. I've pretty much given up hope of receiving my PR card before I leave so I'm looking at needing a PRTD. I have no idea how long this will take to process though and I won't be near London.

Not only that, but I've handed in my UK driving licence and been given an interim (paper) licence which can't be used overseas so I can't rent a vehicle whilst in the UK.
Wow, you've got it even worse than I have!

Information is sparse, but from what I've read, you have to apply in person at London and its a same-day thing. So drop off application and passport early in the morning and pick it up later that day. Some places though said it could be up to 4 weeks! (Vienna Office.) There really isn't much information at all online...

You should totally have your plastic licence by that time. Mine only took 2 weeks before I had it in my hands. I'm in Ontario.

I can't get my proper licence until I show my PR card to ICBC. It'll take a couple of weeks from showing ICBC my PR card to receiving my licence in the mail, so unless I receive my PR card within the next two to three weeks I have no chance.

The CIC website is awful for any kind of info.

have you made plans yet for when you're coming?
Not yet, my hubby's coming over to help me dismantle some furniture and to get quotes for shipping our stuff over. We're going to get our heads together to decide on a date while he's here. Trying to weigh up the best time to arrive because of my youngest daughter's schooling etc. Plus the financial cost of planning everything will be a major factor. It feels odd, as if it's happening to someone else at this stage! I talk about the move to friends and family but it's a bit unreal!

Hope you've enjoyed the Scottish weather! It's been pretty miserable in the UK for the past few weeks. Have you had any snow there?

Sounds like your plan for your hubby to land at the border will work... phew! ♡♡♡♡

He doesn't have to land at the airport . With a one way ticket he might have to prove to the airline that he is going to land, but once he on that plane and goes through security he doesn't have to land at that point. Go to the boarder it took us about 15 mins and it was wonderful, romantic and a great feeling to hug my husband when they stamped his papers.
perfect, that makes complete sense and is exactly what i am hoping for :D so happy for you that your long wait is finally completely over!!

no offense to any Scots on the board, but i think we can all agree that i did not travel to Scotland in January for the weather ;) hahahaha today it is POURING!!! but we don't have to shovel rain, so i'm not complaining at all - i have a driveway of snow to come home to. we were up in the highlands last week and there was a bit of snow up there, but nothing on the roads.

and i totally hear you about the unreal feeling of finalizing plans. won't it be amazing when it finally feels real?? but your logistics are definitely more difficult than mine - my husband just has his clothes and personal things to pack, and it is just him coming on his own. i hope this last stage in the process goes smoothly for you! xox

I don't know. With the COPR (after landing) I can get an interim licence but they won't issue the proper one without seeing the PR card.

They really need to give themselves a shake. I've got a shedload of extra stuff to deal with now because it seems the COPR is good for getting a SIN and that's about it. You're told you can drive on your UK licence for 3 months from landing, but they're not issuing PR cards within that timeframe so for us in BC, we're hooped.

Ontario is so different . Husband applied for his licence received a paper one and two weeks later he received his licence with his photo on.

But we do have to wait 3 months for his heath card to kick in.

I don't understand why it's so different here in BC. Either you're a PR or you aren't. I seem to be a almost-PR.

We have the three month wait too.

Would they give you a BC license if you went and took the written and road tests? I understand it's not something you'd want to do, but if it would get you the proper BC license before your trip, it's maybe something to consider.

Good question, but no. One form of primary ID required to take the test is IMM1000, the COPR is IMM 5688.

I'm not sure what you mean, beckybrit. I landed in December.

I was just agreeing that I don't see how you can get a card unfortunately. I did the written test and road tests here but was still only given a paper interim license as I had less than 6 months left on my status in Canada at that point (I was able to get a card once I had my 2 year visitor visa)
