Hi everyone,

I'm sure this has been asked before but reading all the FAQs I'm not a 100% sure.

I landed just under two weeks ago and am in Canada (was here for a year and a half before on the IEC).
The wife and some friends want to go down to Mt.Baker for a ski weekend, long weekend in Feb.

I don't have my PR card yet, just the signed COPR in my passport.
Reading a lot of blogs says if you travel on a commercial carrier you need the card or a PRTD but in a private vehicle (which we will be doing) you don't. Another blog says as a British Citizen you will be fine, they will just need to look you up, which will take a little longer.

Can anyone shed light? I now it's a grey area but if anyone has done it before, would be great to hear what they say.
I should have asked the IO at the border but didn't know till after that it takes 2 months or more to get the bloody PR card!

Cheers
CC

That's awesome! Can I ask if only the sponsored person gets a register letter with the copr or does the person sponsoring also get a letter as well. The reason I ask is that my husband who I am sponsoring received a registered letter with his copr but we missed picking up my letter as person sponsoring - we were away over December and by the time we came back, my post office had returned to sender.

Does the sponsor receive any kind of letter? Maybe acknowledging that the applicant has been approved?

congrats to all the recent COPR recipients - most especially BeaverDiva and sausageboyuk! :)

just looking at our options for landing - my husband will be flying into the Pearson airport and i'll be meeting him there. i understand his official landing will take place before he comes out into the waiting area, and that kind of disappoints me.. it may seem like an inconsequential procedure, just a few minutes of paperwork, but it's such an important moment in our relationship that i really feel it's something i want to be a part of with my husband. so i'm wondering what the response would be (and if anyone has done this, please let me know if it was successful!) if my husband flew into Toronto with COPR in hand on a one-way ticket and told the border agent, 'i am here to become a PR, but my wife really wants to be with me when i land, so i'd rather not activate my PR here - we're driving from here directly to Niagara Falls and i will activate my PR when we re-enter Canada' and then we just flagpole in Niagara Falls (i live 20 minutes from there anyway, so it's not really out of the way). i know he is able to enter Canada as a visitor without activating his PR, and i know that when he is ready to land he only needs a one-way ticket, but my question is will he be able to enter with a one-way ticket technically as a visitor since he's not officially landing at the airport? worst case scenario is that he will have to land right there and then, and it is what it is (he'll be here!!! yay!!!) but i'd really love to share the moment with him :)

How romantic! I hope you can arrange something ♡♡♡♡♡

We want my husband to be there when we do our landing interview at Halifax but I'm not sure if it's allowed at the airport.

Such a milestone, so it would be nice if it's possible. Good luck

Guys I have a question, I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. We changed our address on Thursday last week and received an email from London confirming this on Friday, the email did say that it wouldn't show on ECAS. However today I have looked on ECAS to see it has been updated. We are September applicants and it does seem like they are getting to that group of applicants. Do you think this could mean someone is looking at the file?

thank you! i asked about being with my husband while he lands at the airport in Toronto and was told that no, i couldn't go into the room where the interview takes place because it's beyond security, but maybe the airport in Halifax is set up differently. ah well, at the end of the day, we'll be with our loved ones, and that's the most important part :) i have one more parting with my husband (i'm in Scotland right now and will be heading home on Thursday) but this will be the last time i'll be crying at the airport ;) then the countdown will be on for landing!!!

have you made plans yet for when you're coming?

He doesn't have to land at the airport . With a one way ticket he might have to prove to the airline that he is going to land, but once he on that plane and goes through security he doesn't have to land at that point. Go to the boarder it took us about 15 mins and it was wonderful, romantic and a great feeling to hug my husband when they stamped his papers.

Hey everyone! Glad to see London appears to be moving along quickly now :)

I just have a question about PR Cards. Once you land, it should automatically arrive in the post, correct? I remember seeing something about 90 days being the rough amount of time it took before you got it.

I landed on Dec 2nd, and I'm travelling back over to the UK on the 28th of March. With this whole ETA / PR Travel Documents rule changing I'm starting to get worried that I might not have my card before I go back home!

Anyone got any thoughts, or have recently received their PR Card?

Cheers!

Current processing time is 100 days, plus mailing time, which CIC states can be up to 6 weeks.

If your card doesn't arrive in time, you will need to either apply for a PRTD or fly to the US and cross the border on foot or in a private car.

I'm in the same boat. I landed on December 6th and am travelling to the UK for a couple of weeks on 13th March. I've pretty much given up hope of receiving my PR card before I leave so I'm looking at needing a PRTD. I have no idea how long this will take to process though and I won't be near London.

Not only that, but I've handed in my UK driving licence and been given an interim (paper) licence which can't be used overseas so I can't rent a vehicle whilst in the UK.
