Is it extreme weather in Toronto

Some of our relatives are discouraging about applying for PR to Canada on the grounds of extreme weather condition.
Those staying in Toronto, could please share if weather is so extreme? I always thought weather is similar to NY.

Yeah true...relatives have been suggesting us to apply for Australia rather. However we prefer Canada.

The weather in Toronto does get cold. Whether it is extreme or not really depends on how you define extreme, and where you are currently residing. In my opinion, the weather in Toronto is similar to upstate NY but colder than NY City.
