Of course it will be. Any professional experience that you have in your respective field would be valid.
Well, it does sound obvious, however, reading through the forum it appears that some people are having more trouble finding a job than others.
It looks like work experience from some countries is less 'valuable' than from others. That is the reason why I'm asking about this.

I think it all ends up on the hiring manager. For example if you have worked in an internationally known company in your home country you have higher chances. When I applied I found that my experiences in such companies was valued than the ones folks haven't heard much.
I work in IT, so the experiences might be different in other professions.

Having said that I believe from my experience IT is one profession where they do not look for Canadian experience, most people I know have bagged jobs in a month or two.

^ I agree! IT jobs don't really need Canadian experience. You just have to be really good in the interviews and you will surely get the job. I arrived in Canada in December 2012, started applying in January 2013 and got one February. When you get it, do a really awesome job and you will not be worried about being jobless anymore ;)

Of course Canadian experience is more valuable than any other and experience from an English speaking country counts more than experience from other countries.

But not for getting a job.... it is when you are negotiating your salary when it will be thrown at your face "yes, you obviously have experience but I can't sell that to a CANADIAN client, so I can only offer you a junior position".

Getting "any job" in IT is easy, no experience required.

wow next 5 years huh?
Currently the job market is doing well. So by the time you complete your PG, you might want to get into skills that would be in demand 2 years from now. Try to get into a course with co-op so that you would have an opportunity to work with companies during your course before you graduate.

Hi Guys,

I hold an MBA degree from US and have got 7 years experience in the US as a Business Analyst (Finance domain). For the past 5 years I've been employed with a major IT consulting company. I would like to know what are the job prospects for BA's in Canada. Is it useful to pursue certifications like CBAP before landing in order to land in a BA Job in Canada? Please suggest.

With your experience, it should be easy to find a job once you land. Having said it is a competitive job market so if you have certifications like CBAP it would certainly help. Since it would a rush to find a job and settling down once you land, I would suggest get the CBAP before landing.
There are lot of postings on www.workopolis.com for BA positions in Banks and other financial instituations, telecos, IT companies.

Good luck!

Business Analyst should have decent market, CBAP will definitely help also US experience will help to certain degree. But don't expect US salary levels. Even the same consulting companies pay about a notch lower here in Canada compared to US.

True that. Do not expect US salaries in Canada. Canadian companies pay about 60-80k for BA entry level!

You should look for courses in colleges/universities. I would recommend Humber college, University of Toronto or Seneca. The courses information are available on the respective websites. Choose the ones that you would prefer. Java and .Net are in demand.
