I've read a few threads on this forum, such a wonderful and informative forum!!! I wish I have found it earlier!

My background:

My husband is originally from Hong Kong, with both Hong Kong (expired) and British passport. We're finally planning to fill out the sponsor forms. I have been Canadian citizen with valid passport for 18 years. We've been married for almost 6 years, with a 5 yr old and a 2.5 yr old daughters. I have been a full time mom with no income since Aug of 2012 when my younger one was born. We do have a house but it's under my dad's and my name ( I cannot apply for mortgage solely without income) My husband travels and visits us about 3 times a year, on our birthdays. He supports us financially and I do have all the proofs of money transfers from over the years. We have travelled and visited each other's family and my extended family over the years. Lots of photos available.

Questions:
1. Do I still need option-C as I had no income but only interests from savings in the banks, and UCCB/Child Tax.
2. Is it more sensible to apply outland? He can visit any time, and he can still work and earn income online as he's an IT guy.
3. When we attached photos as proofs, is it better to print then out from photo labs or print them at home (no color printer) with captions on regular computer paper?
4. I was born in China, do I have to supply a birth certificate? My mom only has a hand written note from the local clinic where I was born (small town in the early 80s) It's been translated. I can get it notorized easily.

It's so nervous racking to organize all the supporting documents and fill out the forms. I am so afraid of getting the application rejected - hence I've procrastinated so long...

Thanks for any input in advance.

Hope everyone's application gets processed smoothly!!!

cheers
:D
1. Yes, because the Option C proves that you didn't get any social assistance (that would make you uneligible as a sponsor).
2. Yes, you should definitely apply outland. You should do some research on the forum which one would go faster, through London or through Hong Kong.
3. It's fine to print at home, but it's important for both of you to be easily recognizable, so if you feel that the home print's quality isn't good enough, I suggest to print elsewhere.
4. The sponsor doesn't need to send the birth certificate, you can prove your Canadian citizenship in different ways, take a look at the checklist.

Hello everyone,

This is such a great forum with such valuable advice and information! Hopefully someone can shed some light on my question...
I am a Canadian Citizen and have been married to my Australian husband for 5 years. We got married in Canada and have traveled back and forth between Australia and Canada for the last 10 years but have always resided in Australia. We will be travelling to Canada in April with our two year old son and plan on lodging an inland application as soon as we arrive. We have decided not to go the outland route as processing times in Australia are long and we want to be close to friends and family now.

I am a bit concerned as to what we are to tell the border officer as I don't want to lie about our intentions upon arrival. We only have one-way tickets.
- Is it alright to tell the border officer that we are intending to apply for permanent residency once we are in Canada?
- Is it OK to arrive with a one-way ticket?
From what I have read in previous posts there is a risk of being refused entry if we say that we are moving permanently but considering our long history travelling back and forth between Canada and Australia and the fact we are married with a child perhaps it is more of a risk to lie about our intentions? Advice please...

Thanks Sophieee for your quick reply.
I will try to get the Option C ASAP then.

As for photos, I am not sure how to label them. I remember reading somewhere not to stick photos onto anything, not to write on the back.... etc etc. What's the best way to do it?!

I don't know about these suggestions. I included 2-3-4 pictures on one page of a word document, write some info above them and then print out.

I think you should apply outland. As an Australian citizen you can expect a fast process, you are free to travel, you can come and stay together in Canada, you can be close to friends and family, and you don't need to wait till April with sending the papers. If you choose the inland route you will be stuck in Canada for two-three years, risking your application every time you leave the country.

You can't use such words like "moving permanently" when you are talking about your husband who is just a visitor to Canada. But you can try and tell the truth, that you will apply (or applied) for permanent residency and you will follow every rules and you will always apply for visitor extension and if by reason he will be denied he will leave the country. The chances that your husband will be denied are extremely low but you need to be careful what words you use.

Will the provision of an OWP with the inland application assist in the formalities of border entries/exits ?
For example if i have employment, because of my OWP, and take a vacation/leave the country, would coming back in not be straight forward because i have a work permit and (being a British Citizen) dont require a visa to visit.

Hi there! I'm also from the Czech R. and our app was received just 6 days prior to yours :)
We're anxiously awaiting AOR as it's essential for medical coverage.
Good luck!

Thanks Sophieee, i appreciate the response. Super helpful website - much better than the CIC itself! They should hire people on here for their Call Centres (maybe give them LMIA's at the same time!) :D

Hello everyone,

My case is somewhat complicated. I am an international student and I have been living with my common law partner for over two years. We planed to submit a outland app for the sake of shorter processing time, however, my academic suspension changed everything. University asks me to take 2015 winter seamster off and come back in Sep 2015. So to avoid losing legal status, we submitted an inland app with OWP.

My original study permit valid until aug 2016, but the suspension would make it invalid within 3 months as my school immigration advisor told me. So I am worried about not able to get OWP because my study permit is expiring now(Since the pilot program requires legal status and I don't know if my situation satisfy that requirement).

1.Am I eligible for OWP?

2.I have read about implied status, am I having an implied status now? What can I do before I get OWP, can I work or study?

3.Can I go back to university this September with OWP?

4.Can I reapply Study Permit now since I have a letter from school saying I am eligible to come back school this Sep?

I know this is a lot of questions and I am really looking for the best way for me to remain in Canada legally and go back to school next term.

Thank you in advance for all your help.
