Hi All,

Pls guide for below queries.

1) my mother is working, still would her application require sponsorship letter. I am a Recent PR but can't sponsor as I'm unemployed. She wud provide her own income proof as her financial support during her stay.

2) I would be sending her invitation letter though. Will this suffice

3) Are invitation letter and sponsorship letter same?

Thanks much !

In the books of CIC there is no world such as Sponsorship for trv (visit visa) or sponsorship letter for visit visa, although it is widely used by many people. Sponsorship or to sponsor someone (family member) is only applicable if you are making an application in Family class category or supervisa in which the family member migrate to Canada permanently thus the result of a sponsorship is PR card or a long term visa. For a visit visa (trv) technically no one can sponsor a visit visa.
a visit visa (trv) is approved based on the circumstances of the applicant ( not on the status/stability/eligibility of the person who the applicant is visiting in canada) however an applicant can include/provide an invitation letter to support his/her application.
what is an invitation letter?
An invitation letter is a simple letter (paper/email/fax) written by the person whom the applicant is going to visit or stay with in canada. An invitation letter can establish the following facts for the applicant:-
1) the intentions of the applicant (e.g visiting her daughter)
2) address where the applicant will be staying
3) how much money the applicant will be needing during his/her stay in canada.( a daughter/friend in canada will provide food and shelter to her friend/mother. So the friend/mother needs less amount of money to carry as her travel expense)

Who can provide an invitation letter?
Anyone living in canada can invite anyone living abroad and offer him/her accommodation, food and guidance during his/her stay in canada. E.g a friend can invite a friend or even friends of a friend. A person living in canada can invite his close relatives, distant relatives...literally anyone he knows. At the same time anyone can invite as many people he wants ( there is no restriction on the number of people you invite in case you have accommodation for all of them). The person who is sending an invitation letter can be a student, permanent resident, citizen or with any other legal status.( even a recent permanent resident can invite his friends or relatives)

Effect of an Invitation letter on the application for trv
Invitation letter in generally is the least important document in a trv application as it has no legal binding.
1) heavily decorated letters focusing on the financial stability and status of the person to whom the applicant is visiting....MAY HAVE A.NEGATIVE IMPACT. (Reason: it proves/ shows more ties to canada rather than strong ties to the applicants home country)
2) visit visa (trv) is geared for people who want to visit canada for a short duration and the assessment for approval is based on the applicants stability in his country of residence and reasons to return back to their home country. A financial stable applicant may not even need an invitation letter ( e.g a tourist visiting canada who has no one in canada).

I hope it helps you understand more about an invitation letter.
Rule of thumb statement: It is the main applicant who has applied for trv NOT the person whom the applicant is going to visit.

Wish you best of luck with your mothers application and hope you will soon be blessed with spending time with your mother.
