I got study permit application approved yesterday :D I am going to explain my situation and list all the documents I submitted here but first I would like to thank all people I this forum for their help, I am very grateful to you all. I am gonna list the documents in the end.

I am from Sudan. I graduated from University of Khartoum in September 2, 2014 with the BSc degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I started working as a researcher in the University of Khartoum in November 2013 and I also took a part-time role as a teaching assistant. My parents and my only sister are residents of Saudi Arabia and I was resident there too but I moved to Sudan since 2007 and I have been travelling to Saudi Arabia to visit them at least once a year since then.

I was accepted in the program of MASc in Electrical and Computer Engineering in Concordia University on March, 2014. I will be sponsored by my mother during my stay and I will receive a research assistantship of $15,000 per year from the University. My tuition fees are $24,750 for the full duration of my program and they will be paid in installments during the first 4 semesters. The living expenses in Quebec according to CIC are $12,000 per year but the university estimate them to be $14,000 to $16,000 per year (All these fees were mentioned in my letter of acceptance). My mother has more than $58,000 in her account and an annual salary of $62,000 and my parents own some land plots in Sudan; so I didn't have any problem proving financial support. My mother is a physician and my father is a retired electrical engineer. My sister has Down Syndrome and she is a special education student, she is 15 years old.

As for home ties I was granted a leave of absence from my job as a researcher in the University of Khartoum and I had three certificates to prove that my parents own lands in Sudan ( one residential plot of my father's, one residential plot of my mother's and one agricultural land of my father). I translated those certificate and had them and the translations attested by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I believe the above papers were sufficient to prove my home ties but I was actually only worried bout this part during my application.

Then I applied for a CAQ (Quebec Acceptance Certificate) on March 23 and got it approved in April 15. I also did my medical exam upfront because I didn't want it to delay my application process later. Then I started my study permit application online. The visa office responsible for my application was the Canadian Embassy in Cairo (average processing time of 8 weeks according to CIC website). I submitted the application online on May 6 and paid using a visa card. on the same day I received a message confirming my submission and another requesting my biometrics and my application showed "Your action is Needed". I went to Cairo and submitted my biometrics on May 18 and my application was updated in the same day to "submitted" and in details it showed "We received your biometrics".

After that I didn't get any messages in my CIC account and nothing changed in my Application Status and they didn't request any additional documents. I received the Original passport request on June 25 and I sent my passport using DHL on June 29 and it was delivered to the embassy on June 30. I received my Letter of Introduction on my CIC account on July 10 and my application status was updated to "closed" and "This application was approved". I didn't receive my passport yet nor an email saying that they dispatched it but I guess that's because Thursday is the last day of the week and I will get it next week insha' Allah.

Here is the list of documents I uploaded with my application (I just followed the checklist and didn't add any additional documents):

1. Application for Study Permit Made Outside of Canada (IMM1294) form.

2. the CAQ Approval letter which I got from Ministry of Immigration Quebec.

3. Family Information (IMM5645) form.

4. For Proof of financial support I submitted the following:

- A letter from the University of Khartoum granting me leave of absence.
- A letter signed by my mother declaring that she will be sponsoring me during my stay in Canada.
- A certificate from my Mother's employer (Dallah Hospital) confirming that she works with them as a physician (Specialist Obistetrics and gynecologist) and stating her monthly salary.
- A certificate of Balance from her bank showing her current balance in $USD.
- A letter from Concordia University certifying that I have secured Accommodation in the University residence and paid the appropriate deposit to do so as well as purchased a meal plan. I thought this will also confirm that I have paid the appropriate deposit to the University to secure my place since I wouldn't have been able to apply for their residence otherwise.
- My birth Certificate and it's translation t o English (Both Attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
- The three plot ownership certificates I mentioned earlier with their translations (All attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
- Some pay slips of my mother to show the amount of bonuses she is getting.
- Her bank statement for 6 months.

5. A scan of my current passport and also of my old passport showing all my previous visas.

6. A digital Photograph.

7. Letter of Acceptance.

8. Proof of Medical Exam.

9. Schedule 1 - Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside Canada (Optional).

That's all but I want to say that I think that the procedure and processing times are different for different individuals. I had a friend of mine who applied for study permit in 2013 for MEng program in Western University and got his application approved in 3 months and they didn't request a medical exam for him but asked for a police certificate, while I got my application approved in 7 weeks and they didn't request a police certificate. We are both Sudanese and have similar cases !!!!

I wish good luck to everyone here in their applications and I hope what I mentioned above is beneficial to them :)

I have one question. Did you need to submit documents on diplomas and transcripts from your previous studies... high school transcripts, underground and post-secondary education diploma and transcripts?

Thanks :)

I didn't submit any of those they weren't mentioned in my checklist and I didn't submit any document more than the documents I listed above.

Good luck with your application :)

Congratulations. Since you applied online, I'm hoping you can tell me how you went about your digital Passport photograph. I scanned it at 600 dpi and then cropped it out, after changing the specifications to meet the requirements and it then looked quite big. Is this correct?

Hi again. Thank you for your help on the photo requirements. I want to ask concerning what happened while you were waiting for your visa to be approved.
I applied october 3rd, its been two months now. I only got an update recently saying they were reviewing my medical results. But i dont know if they've reviewed the other documents yet because i know online application is quite different from paper application.
Did his happen during your waiting period too? If so, can you tell me what happened? Been thinking about it because i'm to resume January.
Thank you.

Hello,
Can you tell about documents you submityed for CAQ?
The documents you sent for CAQ were ORIGINAL or attested phtotcopies? Especially for the proof of financial capacity, affidavit for parents for financial support?
I am really confused if I have to submit orginal documents for CAQ or just attested photocopies.

Please help
