Social life, Nightlife.. making new friends.....

So how does someone new to Canada meet new people to socialize and have fun. Is it easy for people who are alone to go out and have a good time.? Where does one start. I've heard people are friendly in Canada, so how do you connect with them, do you have to go to Bars, Nightclubs etc. or is it more through social networks online. How does a guy meet women, and find people with similar interests etc...What does one do for entertainment in Canada

When I first moved to Canada I found meetup.com. It was a great resource for me and I joined lots of groups. Meetup is an online community where people with similar interests can connect for doing real face to face activities. You can sign up for free, search for groups in your area or with your interests, join groups (some are free, some carry activity/participation fees) and you can even start your own meetup (for a fee). The groups are as varied as the people who decide to organize one. There are walking/hiking/biking groups as well as other sports, dance, book clubs, networking, partying, religious, mom's with tots, even my home country has an ex-pat group in my area. And as always, use your common sense about personal safety. I've never had a problem and I have met and become close friends with many of the people I've met through meetup.
