Hello Everyone,
I would ask for some comments/ advice in order to apply for a work permit inside Canada. I just received a job offer to work here in Vancouver. My visitor status expired on October 12, 2012 and we sent my PR application (sponsorship) last May 1st, so by now we are just waiting for the next couple months and get the first approval.
If you apply for a WP, do you use the format to change your status in Canada as visitor/ worker?
Any comments would really help.
Judith

I use HCC Medical Insurance Services for my coverage... they have coverage for Canada as well, I use the Atlas Policy for when I am living in Mexico... not sure what the cost would be for Canada. I paid 350 for a year in Mexico tho.

We went to get the visa today!

It was very simple. We got to the embassy at like 8:30 and dropped off the passport with a cell number and our address in Canada. Then they told us to come back between 3 and 4. Make sure you guys print 2 copies of the PPR because they keep one when you hand in the passport, and then they ask for another copy when you go to pick it up!

So we went back at 3 and there were a bunch of people there waiting to get their visas. You don´t need to take a number when you go for the passport! (we were kind of confused about this lol).

Anyways so they were calling out people´s names and they gave us the passport with the visa in it, the confirmation of permanent residence (which they were really clear about telling us to not write anything on that until you get to the airport at customs, or else you will have to re-do the whole visa application!!) and they also gave us some papers with info about health care and finding jobs etc... Then she gave us back pictures and stuff that we sent in as proof.

Wow you were really lucky. we submitted well over 100 photos and asked for them back when we got the visa and we were told that the are NOT allowed to give them back (or any of the other things like postcards and such....) :'(.... and we did not get any job or health care literature until landing

Awesome! Are you gonna use Air Canada for your flight? I'll probably use them, gotta check on how much they allow for checked baggage.

Hey everyone!

Wow, i have to say that this forum has given me ALOT of information! Im 19, my husband is 21 and we got married January 4th 2012. So its still way to early to submit our application but iv been already trying to find out all the information that i need. My husband has No Status in the United States, and we are wanting him to move up to Canada. And here is what i learned so far..and if im wrong can someone correct me? Any additional information would be great! ;)
-Since we are applying Outland..we have to send our application to Mississauga ( or is that only my sponsor application....?)
-If approved, the application will get sent to Mexico City where it will be processed and looked at.
-From there they will ask for his Police certificates and Medical.
-If they request an interview he will have to go down to Mexico City (even though he hasnt been to Mexico since he was 6 :( )

*If everything gets approved...where does he pick up his PR card?

~Looking forward to reading everyones success stories~

Welcome Janine!

Yes, the whole package has to be sent there, they will forward it to Mexico City once you've been approved as a sponsor

-From there they will ask for his Police certificates and Medical.

Police Certificates yes, for the Medicals, they have to be submitted with the application, I would also get the FBI police check as soon as you send your package, since it takes like 6 weeks to get it done

-If they request an interview he will have to go down to Mexico City (even though he hasnt been to Mexico since he was 6 :( )
That's right!

If everything gets approved...where does he pick up his PR card?
They will mail the PR card to the address he gives immigration.

I am in a similar situation. Married 3 years to my college sweetheart - we are in our 30s and have a toddler. Husband is undocumented in the US and not been to Mexico since he was 10 or so. The good news for your husband is that he doesn't have to do Mexican police clearance since he hasn't been there since he was 18 which cuts down the processing time. He will have to do FBI clearance in the states. Just leave social security number blank. You do the medical ahead of time in the states and mail it WITH your application. Otherwise you are correct. Good luck!

Oh and they will ask for his passport and mail it back with his visa in it. Make sure you put Mexico City under visa office requested and say his status in the US is undocumented.

Also Janine, I recommend you guys send the application with the FBI clearance. Everything goes faster if you mail in a complete application. Send the FBI fingerprints in as SOON as you can because it takes 6-8+ weeks to get it back. Send more than one set of prints and send them a prepaid fedex envelope so you get it back faster. Unless you're not in a huge rush.

Yes I think air Canada it´s the only one I can find that doesn´t go through USA! And we don´t want to go through the whole process of getting the transit visa for the states. We are going to Edmonton so we would go from mexico city to vancouver and then from there to Edmonton.

Yesterday we asked at aeromexico and they said they have from mexico to montreal and they allow 1 bag per person and then it´s a 50 dollar fee for any extra bags.

Oh but we almost had a heart attack for a minute when the guy said you need the transit visa for the states for just flying over USA territory....but then another guy that was there said you don´t need it.

Can anyone confirm that you don´t need the transit visa?? I am pretty sure you don´t...
