Hey guys,

Hoping someone can answer this. My husband lives in Quebec: CIC-M has approved the sponsorship and then I know that after they approve it, Quebec has to approve it as well- Anyone know how long the process takes from Quebec??

I'm an outland applicant and my application has already been sent to the appropriate visa office by CIC- M, but we sent in our Quebec stuff to them, like 2-3 weeks ago

Hey Puzzled...I think the reason I got it so quickly is that I hand delivered my payment to their office (so they wouldn't have to sort through the mail). Hopefully you will get a letter in the next few days and we will see you next week :)

i was wondering, who decides if you need an interview or not? is it CIC or MICC? and for inland interview, does the couple always need to go together or just the applicant?

Firstly, Foofy - I am having my interview this month and so is Teriskier.
Secondly, to answer your question mdna - on the letter I got from CIC about my landing interview it clearly states that ; you have to be accompanied by your sponsor/spouse, and your sponsor has to provide an ID document with picture.

That's all I can answer. Hope it helps. And Puzzled, it's coming soon :).

Hi everyone! :)

I've been checking my options for a while. My Working Holiday visa (Experience Canada Programme) is coming to an end and as I'm in Montreal, I've been thinking about applying from here. When I called the immigration twice, asking what can I do to be able to work after my visa expires, they said I just need to send the Open Work Permit app together with the sponsorship app. And they told me that if I apply for OWP while still on my working visa then I will be able to continue working without waiting for AIP. ::)

What do you think about it?

I also got this from them:

If a spouse or common-law partner is sponsored from inside Canada, they can apply for an open work permit by completing an Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada as a Worker (IMM 5553). This application must be sent before their status expires in the same envelope as the sponsorship application. This will allow them to keep a legal status in Canada up until the time their application for permanent residence is *approved in principle.

If their status expires before the application for permanent residence is approved in principle, they will still have a legal status in Canada. This is called implied status. Please note that the open work permit will only be issued once the application for permanent residence is approved in principle. Visit our Web site to see how long it may take to get approval in principle.

Am I interpreting this correctly? If not, does it mean I will be facing 11 months of unemployment?

Hello There,

Today we finally got the CSQ for my sponsored wife means AIP is more or less done and we were wondering if it was enough for having her International driving license changed for a Quebec one?
I asked the question because SAAQ told me in fall 2011 that after 6 months she would had to have her driving license changed for a quebec one to still be allowed to drive.
Problem is they don't do that for visitor, she needs another status and her last status before implied (for permanent residency) is visitor.
He said some people could get a temporary residency status but I fear to mess with the immigration process by trying to get a change of status.
Anyone has a clue ?
thanx

Hi, Until she hasn't received full permanent residence (not AIP) she can drive with an international driving permit(until its validity) when she receives full permanent residence (landing date) she can drive with an international driving permit for another 6 months and you can have the test(or exchange) max 1 year after full permanent residence(but after 6 months from landing date you cannot drive with a int driving permit). after 1 year from landing date her international driving permit is not recognized anymore. i know this by experience. i had an italian licence and i exchanged it but i still had to pass theoretical and driving test. hope that helps!one more tip. if she has a normal foreign licence(not int driving permit) she can drive as a visitor (not permanent resident) for only 6 months since she entered in the country(visitor, worker or else). If she has an international driving permit then what i said earlier(at the start of my post) is valid. go, if you can, in the Saaq(societe d assurance automobile du quebec) website they change regulations and number of months of validity of foreign licenses often....

Thank you for your answer Inlandappl.
Actually she has an international driving License still good for 2 years.
My other problem is my insurance company is refusing to cover her on our car after 6 months...ridiculous, actually we got an extension they wanted to prevent her from driving after 3 months at first.
My wife come from Germany and based on SAAQ information the driving license will be exhcnaged as is without a test.
Guess I need to look for a more "understanding" insurance company until we get permanent residence for her...

Hello,

When she receive AIP and CSQ she can apply to have her driver licence changed to quebec one. My boyfriend is from england and we did it last week. But you need to wait for AIP... Our insurance had covered him for 1 year....

Sorry for the late reply. I'm not so active here anymore.

But, yes, it's correct. It's called 'implied status'.

Conditions:
1) you apply inland through family class (need to be maried, don't know if common-law counts too)
2) your current work permit (WHP) didn't expire yet (PR application needs to be stamped for reception by CIC Vegreville BEFORE your work permit expires)
3) you include your application for a new work permit with your PR application (that is approved when sponsorship stage is approved), use the form Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada as a Worker (IMM 5553)
4) You don't leave Canada

You can continue to work under the conditions of your expired work permit. In your case, it's an open work permit, so you can even change employer without hassle.
You can keep using your SIN/NAS.

You can continue doing this, until CIC made a decision on your new WP application.
