Hi all, although I am in Canada, i visit this thread once in a while coz I really wish all of you will get it processed faster and start preparing your new life. I know you make the decision due to many reasons but many people just want a good education and future for their children. For those of us who live in India, Pakistan, Philipines etc, it is a transition from a developing country environment to a more developped enviroment. However, I have a question regarding people who already have a good job in Singapore and their kids are enjoying good education at Singapore schools. To me, I think that Singapore is far superior than Canada, before I migrated I think Canada is a paradise, but I think this rosy picture was painted by immigration agents and firms that benefit from this immigration process. Let me tell you that life in Canada is much worst than Singapore. The salary in Canada is lower than Singapore in most professions but the tax is much higher. Usually an accountant with 5 years experience here can earn 30-40K a year (for immigrants), and after tax it come to 20-25K a year, which is barely enough to survive. Cost of living is very very high. Although medical is free the waiting time for non emergency treatments are years and years and no coverage for dental or eye treatments which are very expensive. The society is highly discriminated against immigrants and oversea qualifications are not recognized. Most immigrants work survival jobs for the rest of their life unless they go back to school. There are no career prospect for immigrants, we have to go back to school for many years and start from scratch again if we want to have a proper career in Canada. It takes 5 years to obtain Citizenship compared to 2-3 years in Singapore. I would suggest that those already have a jobs should not quit the job when you got the visa. Take a 2 weeks leave and go and see the first hand how Canada is before you make the final move!
Hi letina,

Thanks you for your thoughts and suggestions. I think what you have said is very true to people who are citizen of Singapore or Brunei. These countries are much better than Canada I would say. I been working here in Brunei for the last few years and me and my family have been enjoying a very comfortable life here. I would definitely choose Brunei over Canada but the problem is we are just contract worker here and no matter how long we work for them we can never get even just a PR status. So, they can throw us back to our home country when our services is no longer needed or when we are not suitable for work anymore. Looking ahead for a better future for our children, we decided to try migrating to Canada instead of going back to our home country which economy is getting worse every year.

The bottom line is, we will have different reactions or outlook in living and working in Canada depending on which country we came from. For me and my family, I think my children would have a better chance of a good future in Canada than our home country.

However, I have a question regarding people who already have a good job in Singapore and their kids are enjoying good education at Singapore schools.
Are you not from Singapore? If so, then why did you migrate to Canada?

hi Garu, I am not from Singapore, I am from India but I worked in Singapore and was a Singapore PR, I was invited to apply for Singapore citizenship but at that time my view of Canada is very much different from what I see it after I came to Canada. I really regret quitting the job and leaving Singapore, although I can return as a PR but it will be not so easy getting back a good job as I had before. I am not sure about Brunei but Singapore is relatively easy to obtain PR, you need to work for a few months and earn decent salary though.. Now we are having a lot of difficulty in our new life here in Canada but this was what we chose so we have no choice but to try hard each day, but I can tell you it is really a harsh reality, last winter we was almost collapsed and I've never seen such a severe weather before, it is really really tough

Sorry to hear that letina, you are a provincial nominee right? Were you not informed by your sponsor beforehand about the living standard in that province? Maybe you should try other places like Quebec or Vancouver but I don't think you can do that now since you are under PNP. After hearing all your sharing, I'm actually a bit anxious now since we were also nominated in New Brunswick.

Maybe you need more time to adjust but I'm sure you'll eventually get use to it very soon. Goodluck.

Guys, I know its tough for a very well-paid employee to adjust in unfavorable situation as Canada has. Multiculturalism is still not bonding the relationship there. But, I think Garu is dead right. People like us from least developed country are anxious about their future. Things are not stable here. I love my country Bangladesh as my mother. I would never think of leaving my country if an affluence condition would be there for me. Our conditions drive us to try elsewhere only for better leaving. I believe all of us will get visa and overcome all the hindrances gradually.

Garu, I sent an email to SVO mentioning that my dmp asked me for additional test and my medical may not reach Singapore before 8 weeks. 'Should I submit my Passport?' Today they replied me to send my passport and photos after two weeks of additional test. Now chance are there for them to keep my passport for indefinite months(Probably, until satisfactory Medical results reached). What would I do if I need my passport in the meantime? Any idea please?

Garu, glad you are going to NB, when you got the visa and going to NB pls let me know, maybe I can go to airport to see you guys :) Which city you will be living in NB? Btw, don't be discouraged by what I said, different people have different view, for me I just prefer my life in Singapore than what I have here, but my sister is really happy, she came directly from India though. Hope everyone gets visa soon! If anyone need helps for info before departure, please let me know

haha much is said about singapore and i'm from singapore =), shall not comment too much about life here in Singapore over on public forum. but the thing is this...it's pretty easy to get PR in Singapore and they are letting people in by the thousands within a very short period of time, so those who are keen, can apply. the waiting time is definitely way way way shorter than what we are facing. as the saying goes. grass is always greener on the other side and it's up to us to find out if it's really that green.

I was curious too, it makes me think now that NB nominees are less priority. I remember that letina's case took a long time as well and was once frustrated too by CIC not replying to query. In fact, you should also in-process now because you almost have the same timeline as CRS right? Anyway, I plan to email them again if still nothing comes up this week.

taivoi, you should get to "In Process" by this month. And MR+PPR may be in next month. SGVO is sending both together these days, as I also found some other FSW applicants (SGVO) having both at a time. All the best.
