So I talked to CIC yesterday, and they said if I have AIP, I can both work and go to school. Is that true? I thought I could either work or go to school.

Try calling again and asking a few other agents. I'm curious on this matter too.

Let me congratulate you on this sad anniversary, Crazy Lucy! I hope those agents just want to allow plenty of time for the officers to process your file, but it doesn't mean it is really going to take you that long. It's true what you said: we just have to appreciate every day of our lives and get the best out of it whatever our status is. Just like you I am going to go to a college and this waiting time is pretty challenging. But we know that this story has a good ending and the more we wait the more rewarding it will feel!)
I used to get really REALLY nervous when it came to CIC. I would just sit here and have panic attacks and anxiety wondering what was going on with my application and seeing all the people who filed at the same time as me land. The reason why mine is taking so long is because I had to submit extra things like my client update and my UK police report and THEN they wanted me to re-do my medical. They didnt ask for the medical AND the police report, they asked for those months inbetween. Again, not much I can do. I'm a little annoyed that they didnt ask me for my meds AND my police certificate at the same time though so save everyone time. Isnt CIC wonderful?

Having AIP, from what i know by experience doesn't mean that you are allowed to work immediately. you can apply for a working permit though but in case you had applied for an OWP (open work permit) when you first filed your inland application then when you are granted AIP you are automatically granted a working permit. I got my residence in september 2011 and until then these were the rules, i don't know if they have changed them

That is true! However, you will have to apply for a work permit or study permit to work or study. If you sent a work permit application along with you PR application right at the begining, when you get AIP, they will automatically send you your OWP. If you did not do so, then you have to apply for work permit separately after you receive your AIP letter. When you receive your AIP letter, it will tell you everything you should do. The advanages of getting AIP here are you do not need a job offer to apply for work permit, and generally, there are no conditions for AIP people, which means you can work anywhere you want and choose any jobs you like.

Regarding study permit, you will also have to apply separately. You can apply for study permit anytime, before or after AIP; there is no difference between regular applicants and AIP applicants. You will need an acceptance letter from a school to apply, and prove you finacial status. However, as an AIP, they will not refuse your study permit, so you do not have to worry whether you have proven enough finance, etc.

Hope it helps!

Hi Crazy Lucy,
I was exactly the same as you. My process was taking so long because of extra document requests. I see you filed you application 3-4 months later than mine, so your time will come soon.
Let me tell you what I felt after a long time waiting. I did not think about the application anymore, I felt like it will never never end. I know it is stressful. You are much better than me because at least you have OWP, but I did not. I have not got AIP until 3 days before the final DM. You can imagine how stressful it is. But now, when I look back to the process, I see clearly that the CIC works systematically. When they have enough information they need, they will work right on it.
You can be sure that when all your documents have reached them, your time is up. Keep positive. I think you are very close now.

Thank you for the kind words. I mainly wish this whole thing would hurry up because all my family members are complaining to ME about it, like I can do something. "Why is this taking so long, do you know? What can you do about it? God thats so strange!" It's like....I'm tired of talking about it, I'm tired of thinking about it. I want it to go away.

...waiting...
I'm completely stressing over CIC this weekend, even though I should be relaxing after a long work week. I called CIC Thursday* to see if I could get a status update because I did like three weeks ago and a gentlemen told me they were just waiting on some background checks and I should land soon. Now they're saying they don't have my FBI Clearance...

So I got my meds done in July 2011, and I sent in a work permit with my FBI Clearance on September 8, 2011. I sent by registered mail, and canada post claims IT WAS DELIVERED on the 13th however they couldn't get a signature for it because so many are delivered to CIC Vegreville and if you look up the tracking information on their website it only says it was accepted at the post office. SO...I ended up getting AIP on like September 21st or 22nd. I wanted my work permit sooner so I submitted an online application with the SAME PAYMENT receipt I sent with the physical one in the envelope on Sep 8th, because at the time online time frames were faster. I received my OWP in like beginning of December. In January, I received another letter from CIC saying they had received my SECOND OWP application and see that it had already been issued and were not going to issue the second request. I assumed yay they definitely have my FBI clearance then huh?! It was in the same envelope with a sticky that said please add to my file ASAP.

So I spent most of yesterday crying T_T I want to call them back but I don't know when they're be open again for the holidays. I did keep a photocopy of my FBI Clearance, but I thought you had to give them the original?

I would say send in the copy, and tell them why you're sending in the copy. It looks like maybe A) They havent gotten around to attaching your file until last or B) It's gotten lost in Vegreville.

Id say call back and ask for your options. I'm really sorry. I wish I could be of more help. :(

Also, CIC hotline will be back open Tuesday. Easter Monday also takes place. You can try to call, but I think a lot of things are still closed.

Thanks CrazyLucy, I hope if they truly have lost it they will accept the photocopy. I mean it even has the the original page's watermarks clearly visible in the photocopy.
I will call them on Tuesday.

I will be even more upset if I end up having to pay more money to get re-fingerprinted and sent to the FBI again, when they have to send me another paper...all this to say "No Arrest Record" -_~

Hi 2010 members

I've landed this morning at Nanaimo. Here is what happened during the "final step" ;D

We arrived there 11:40 since the meeting time was setting at 11:45, knocked the office door because they actually only open for public on Thursday. A lade came and invited us into a small office. Then she asked my passport, 2 pics and my bf's drive license. During the time when she checked the info between my passport and landing paper, she asked us some questions, I was quite nervous because I thought "what?? interview?? will she ask us to leave if we don't answer correct??" She asked how we knew each other, how my bf likes my hometown if he has ever been there? How long we have been living together.....what school did I go before moving to this town.....I was wondering how many question she had at that time...But it's not really an interview, more like chatting, that's how I felt.

After 10 mins, she said, "ok, now I have to confirm something with you (me),
do you have any other child besides the one you listed on the form"
"No"
"Are you thinking about sponsoring him (my son) later?"
"Yes"
"who has the full custody?"
"My ex-husband but he said he is fine if the kid decides to come living with me after he's 16"
"ok.." "now I have other question that you only need to answer yes or no..."
"have you committed any crime in Canada or other country?"
"no"
"have you received an order from Canada or other country to ask you leave" (sorry I don't remember the exactly words, something like that)

"not yet" ( Yes, i was too nervous to forget that she said "only answer yes or no...." but she just smiled to me... :p )
"well, that's it, congratulations you become PR from Canada today....now you can think about how to celebrate it...."
So she gave me the lading paper and my passport back (she wrote something on my passport but I haven't read yet), I didn't know what to say when the paper in my hand....she broke the silence suddenly, said " I know that paper looks like a crap....hahaha :p :p :p and I recommend you making some copies because the words on the paper may disappear years later since the ways it's printed." ( I didn't know if I should laugh with her or not at that time....) She also gave me back "all the study/work permit" I have and told me, you can keep it for memory... :)

Then, she asked me if I had SIN, care card already, I answered "no" but I applied care card 2 months ago.
She said, I had better to send a copy of my landing paper to MSP so they can change my info, and she recommend me to apply SIN after I get my PR card. Also, she mentioned, I knew you may like traveling back to hometown but I still suggest you to wait the card, if you really want to go without the card then be sure you'll get the travel doc before you coming back.

That's it, then we shake hand and said goodbye. Until now, I still feel it's like a dream....but anyway, I finished. I want to thank everyone here because I was not only getting info here but also lots of encourage/support....I truly appreciate. I hope I can do something someday for you guys. Thank you
Congratulations!!!

I'm still waiting :(

April will be 1 year for me after AiP and nothing.

I just called CIC because my BFD was March 25 and nothing happened apparently.

On top of that, CIC is returning 300k skilled worker applications received before 2008. It is just unbelievable how bad this government is.
it"s already a year for me... and my ecas changed to dm made on december 2011 and I'm still waiting. We are on the same boat :(

yep we're all stuck in a waiting game. I just expect these people to do their jobs and attach documents to files. I had sent in a local police certificate with my application but when i got AIP they requested the FBI Clearance, which luckily i had found out was what i needed and requested it in July so I did have it by the time CIC requested it in my AIP letter. But, I sent them the original! I thought they needed the original? I have a photocopy now though :(
