Hi everyone,

So we recieved a letter from CIC that we didnt send enough proof for our marriage. So I have already sent more pictures, some emails (we most talked on skype), cards, letter from our friends and from our bank and we are still waiting for letters from our credit card and phone company. Is there anything else I can send in that would be useful?

Your input is very much appreciated.

I am not sure what the CIC seems to look for in regards to a marriage being genuine, but in our case the only things that I sent were copies of our marriage certificate and daughter's birth certificate. With us already having one child with another on the way (should be born by the end of February) we figured that should be enough proof that the marriage was genuine, and they did not request any additional info. I am really not sure why they seem to be so picky in some cases, and I have heard of cases where the IO has questioned the marriage even when there were children present.

Coldgirl, please tell us a little about the build up of your relationship to the point where you married and then began the process of immigration.

The evidence by itself isn't enough. You need to identify and try to explain issues that an IO may have with your application.

For example: My wife entered the USA on a religious visa. Why would she settle for a court wedding to a guy who follows no specific religion?

What issues exist in your relationship that might cause suspicion?

I have a similar problem...me and my wife usually communicated on skype, fb, and y! messenger. We've never exchanged cards and have very few pictures. how were we suppose to know at first to save all communications we've had? Cic should realize that.we have only a few pics and emails to show.

What do you guys think? Is there anything more we could do to prove our marriage is genuine? We've been married 4 years but lived apart for most of that time. we could only meet during the summer as I was still an undergrad back home. We also married young and hence didn't have much for a celebration or anything extravagant, if you know what i mean.

please advice...i could really use your suggestions

Thank you guys so much for your replies.

Californiajeninca: Thats funny you wanted to send your cake. We still have a piece of ours, maybe we should send it in, lol. When I sent in my application I put what they asked for in the application and thats all. I really didnt feel like I had to prove anything. And that was a BIG MISTAKE!!!

annabruce, so heres our history:

We met in Nova Scotia in 09 where I was studying(on a student visa.) I didnt like it there, so I moved to Toronto a semester later, a couple weeks later, my husband moved cause he didnt want to do the long distance thing. We had already decided to get married but alot later but because of our circumstances, we got married.( I didnt wanna live together before marriage). So exactly six months after our very first date we got married. There are alot of things they probably were suspicious about: we got married too soon, no wedding(it was at city hall) but my in laws threw us a reception a few months later, we are from different races, we didnt include enough evidence.
Please let me, if I could add anything that would help my case. Thank you again.

Was your student status still valid when you submitted your application? Did you complete your degree? Did you have legal status when you submitted your application?

I am not accusing you of anything, but the way you just explained it to me, it sounds like you were unhappy with your degree, but wanted to remain in Canada. It sounds like you are using this guy to remain in Canada. That's why the quantity and quality of your evidence is so important in your case. You need to show the officer in no uncertain term that you are together for love and no other reason. A 6 month relationship is also suspicious in your case. You need to address these issues. Did you in your origianl application?

By the way, I am confident that your intentions are honorable. Please, don't feel like I am attacking you with my questions. This is simply the process I went throught when I a submitted my wife's application. I made a real effort to think like a cold hearted and suspicious visa officer. I presented the application accordingly.

Have they sent your application to the local office, or have they simply requested more information?

No, I totally understand where you are coming from. Its not that i was unhappy with my degree but the place i was staying. I came to toronto to go to a different school but then plans changed after we got married. My status was still valid when I applied. I was actually kinda surprised that our case didnt get sent to a local office, they only asked for more information, because the only things I sent was pictures.

Hi Jurjen
It has been almost three weeks since I sent my 2 photos to Montreal office. I have not received any mails or phone calls.
Do you think it is normal that the waiting time is so long?

the T9C 1W3 is for applications. when you initially send your application it has to go to this address and when it arrives it will be put on the pile and the processing time wait will begin....

the T9C 1W5 is to send General correspondence (general inquiries, documents requested by CPC Vegreville, withdrawal requests, additional information). for example if you have already sent your application and you want to send additional info(new documents, new proof of genuine relationship etc) you have to send it here.
