Hello everyone,

Today my wife's online application was returned asking us to supply a police clearance. The problem is that my wife never left Canada in the last 4 years except for one family trip in Dec 2018 for 2 weeks. We were however in another country for more than 183 days during the 5th year. Anyone faced a similar situation?

I'm thinking to attach a letter explaining that she wasn't outside Canada for more than 183 days in the last 4 years. In the email we received they did mention to send an explanation of why you don't need a police clearance.

Thanks.

If the other country you mention is NOT your home country, you need a PCC. If it is your home country, a simple letter of explanation quoting the citizenship application guidelines should work.

In the online application for the question :
"Do you currently, or have you ever held immigration or citizenship status in a country or territory other than Canada"
For the "status" field, do we have a "visitor" option?
Can anyone share what options we have for status (for eg citizen)

Your answer is in the guide. Question 13.

Tell us if you have had immigration, permanent resident status and/or citizenship in any other country outside of Canada (e.g. your country of birth)

  • Check either yes or no.
  • If you check yes, complete the chart.
  • Tell us which countries you have held status in, and exactly what status you held or currently hold (student, employment/worker, visitor, refugee/protected person, permanent resident or citizen).
  • Date you obtained each status(YYYY-MM-DD)
  • End date if no longer valid, if applicable (YYYY-MM-DD). Leave blank if you currently hold this status

Starting my citizenship application as I was overdue. (5 years now)
Scenario: Applying for family of 5( including me)
I got stuck at one question:

1. For my kids application, the question 8 (b). Has the minor been outside of Canada for a total of 730 days or more in the past five years or since becoming a permanent resident.

SHOULD I THINK THIS QUESTION AS 5 YEARS
OR
SINCE PR

My answer will be yes since PR and no since 5 years

Hi.
Yes Im aware what the guide says, but my question was specifically if there is a dropdown field in the online application where one of the options is "visitor" ?

Hi everyone!

I am due to submit my citizenship application this December and I had a few questions.
I’d like to leave Canada after I submit my application, as I have been living alone away from family and would just love to join them (I suffer from on/off depression and it’ll be winter soon too). I work remotely and that’s sorted. So I’m thinking of terminating my lease and moving to where my family lives for a long stay (7-8 months). Not sure if this is a good idea though, any suggestions / advice please? Will this affect my application in any way?

thank you

The forum is full of anecdotes from people who left the country after they applied, with various outcomes. Some had 0 problem at all, others saw treatment delays or were asked for additional documentation... You can browse different threads.
No-one car really say how it will go for you in term of procedures. The only thing we can say is that your eligibility itself isn't affected as long as you respect the PR residency requirements till the day of your oath.

Thanks for reaching out to this forum, your mental health should be the priority and please treat that as extreme importance and don't be worry about your citizenship application, it is a very long process anyway and eventually it comes, regarding you leave right after the application submission, that is fine, however following to be noted:
make sure your application is complete, have all the supporting documents, etc
carry all important docs with you wherever you go in case they asked for additional documents
be prepared to jump on plane to come back on a short notice, in case they ask you for finger print as it is harder to get it outside of country
you can take the citizenship test outside of country, all you need is reply back to invite saying you are out of country
for oath, you should be in Canada, so you need to travel back
don't listen to stories you read on forums as your millage may wary, this is a very long process, regardless you are in Canada or out
you may need to have police certificated for your long duration of stay and they may ask you to present it during last steps
and take it easy, this is a very long process and it will come one day
good luck!

Help here!

Can I exclude the time I spent in Canada as a temporary worker and apply for citizinship using the 3-year term as PR residence!
Because as temporary worker I spent 2 months outside Canada and I don't want this to affect the 6 months period allowed.

you CANNOT cheery pick your stays and must put them all on your online physical calculator form and other forms.

More details required!

Are you eligible for citizenship considering only the P R period? Was the temporary worker before the PR? In that case, yes you can exclude from your calculations but you do need to report your whereabouts in citizenship application over past five years and birth

Hello, I will be eligible to apply for citizenship on Nov 10, 2022. I plan to give few more days before do the online application but I have visited my home country on three occasions, highest stay was the last one for 60days. Do I need anything like police report which I learnt it has to be for a straight 183-day stay? Right now, I have my English language test (celpip Academic) notice of assessment for three years, cash (630CAD), PR card, driving license.

Thank you!
