IMO, these statements are conflicting,

Statement 1 - "To help make this process easier for Canadians, Service Canada has implemented a new process. As of now, Canadians who provided a duly completed application by mail more than 20 business days ago, and are travelling within the next 20 business days, can visit any of over 300 Service Canada Centres to make a transfer request, in order to ensure their application is processed in time for their travel. "

Statement 2 - "This change aims to reduce the number of urgent file transfers processed by passport offices and to minimize the burden on local printing facilities at those sites. It will speed up the processing of passport applications when the service standard has not been met and a file transfer has been requested as a result. We should also see a further reduction of lineups associated with urgent requests at passport offices. A proof of travel or need will be required."

So Statement 1 says, a person can visit these 300 centers to make a transfer request, which is same as making a request on phone, Statement 2 says this will help reduce the number of urgent files,How??? I am not sure how this will help because eventually it is the specialized passport office that have to deal with transferred requests, its not that other service centers can do anything. I call this just a BS PR tactic, they are just playing with words basically.

Wait till that time otherwise they will send you back, is what was told to me, honestly i don't want to stand in line and then after 8 hours being sent back, i would rather be sure so that atleast they will hear me out
I just got a call from them from Mississauga location to pick my passport this Friday

We sent 3 applications (family) by mail on June 23 and it was delivered on June 27.
CC got charged on July 15th for all 3 of us.
I received my citizenship certificate today in the mail with a note saying that my passport has already been delivered or will be delivered by courier.

When can I expect to receive my passport?
Same, i received my certificate and previous passprt with a note saying the same message 2 weeks ago. Waiting for my passprt now. Taking forever!

If you have urgent need to travel, just fill new forms with photographs and everything and stand in line, don't ask them to transfer , just show them the immediate need and they should be able to print it for you within 24 hours with the new application

So applied at service canada on may 23rd. Called a a couple of times and the application is still under review.

so I’ve asked for a transfer for local office as I have a trip planned to NY end of august(hotel reservation as I’m driving). I was told that IF my transfer is accepted I will be notified via a phone call. Just curious what they mean by IF. If I am requesting for a file transfer to local office shouldn’t it be transferred there 100%? I’m just trying to find out ahead of time so incase I don’t hear back , I’m prepared to line up with a fresh passport application like many people are doing here.

1. Do we need an appointment to go to Service Canada for in-person applications?
2. I am planning to apply for my first passport in September - would processing times improve by then, theoretically (considering vacation crowd would have dropped in numbers)?

A transfer is not guaranteed. I recently asked for a transfer 10 days before my trip, the agent said I was going to receive a call from my local passport office to let me know when my passport would be ready. I never got a call, so I went to the passport office and they told me my file was never transferred, I was unable to get a passport on time. Best thing you can do if they don’t call you and your trip is approaching is to line up early with all your documents to submit a new application.

Hey Thanks for the reply. That kind of sucks though! I was hoping that my file would definitely be transferred. The agent on the phone did mention that I will likely not hear back until the day before my travel, which makes no sense to me. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Hello everyone. I applied in person for my first Canadian passport. I went to Service Canada in London (Ontario) without appointment and give to the officer all required documents as well as paid the fees. This was on June 13th 2022. On the receipt they printed the expected mail out date is Aug 10th but I read that they take up to 13 weeks. Wow! Is anyone got the passport sooner than 13 weeks?
