The Nova Scotia Office of Immigration has released further details on its newest immigration stream, called the Regional Labour Market Demand Stream. This stream, which began considering applications on March 6, 2014, has gained attention because applicants do not need a Canadian job offer in order to be eligible.

More information on the general eligibility requirements for the Regional Labour Market Demand Stream can be found here.

The following questions were recently answered by the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration. They provide greater insight into how the immigration stream will function:

Is there a cap? Has it been reached yet?

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) is still accepting applications for all of its streams. However, this year only 150 applicants to the Regional Labour Market Demand Stream will receive a Provincial Nomination Certificate.

What happens to an application after the limit of 150 nominations is reached?

Applicants will be given the option of withdrawing their applications or remaining in the queue for next year.

When will applicants hear whether they have been nominated?

Applicants will receive a ‘pre-screening’ letter after their application has been assessed for completeness. Because of the large volume of applications to the program, the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration anticipates that it will take longer than three months to receive this letter.

What can applicants do if they forgot to include something in their application?

The NSNP will not accept missing documents at this point. Preference is given to complete applications.

Do applicants need to take the IELTS General test if they have already passed the IELTS Academic test?

No. A passing score on the IELTS Academic test will be sufficient to prove English language proficiency.

Can applicants apply to the NSNP if they have already applied to another Provincial Nominee Program?

Yes, this is possible. However, applicants must meet all necessary requirements and demonstrate a genuine intention to make a life in Nova Scotia. To find out if you are elgible for the NSNP, or one of over 60 Canadian immigration programs, please fill out a free online assessment today.
