Canadian Immigration Minister's Successful Visit to India

Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada recently returned home from visiting Mumbai, Chandigarh, and New Delhi, India.  The purpose of her trip was to review operations at Canadian Visa Offices and to promote Canadian immigration programs to Indian residents.

During her trip, Minister Finley announced the expansion of the Canadian Immigration Integration Project (CIIP).  In response to increased regional demand, a new office will be opened in New Delhi.  CIIP will also be adding services on a rotational basis in the states of Punjab and Gujarat.  In China, rotational services will be added in Shanghai and Beijing.

Since the beginning of the year, the CIIP has helped over 1,200 prospective Canadian immigrants in three cities in India, China, and the Philippines.  With small group orientation sessions and one-on-one counseling, participants create personalized settlement plans for their arrival to Canada.  The sessions equip participants with the tools and resources to secure recognition of their international credentials and to find employment in Canada.

"India is a major source of immigrants to Canada, with highly qualified individuals," stated Minister Finley.  "Canada wants skilled and talented professionals from India and around the world and is committed to helping them integrate quickly into the Canadian labour market."
