Oh...sorry to hear that, maple.
I was not aware of such difficulties to be accepted for PhD studies in canada for foreign students. I came as a postdoc and skipped this stage...
We have, however, about 50% of PhD students in our faculty - non-Canadians (mostly from India and China).
And its probably university and faculty-dependent, cose I am absolutely sure that no way the university would dictate a faculty members here which student to take for their research progress.
I would be very upset in the place of a supervisor...first you work so hard getting all these funds and then someone dictates you whom to hire to do the research?

I hope you will get your PR soon, maple.

Thank you rupeshhari and barabashka_for the good wishes. I do believe life has both sweet and bitter sides, that is what makes life sweet.

I wish you all the best too.

I sent my full application to Buffalo in mid September. Does anyone know how long it is currently taking Buffalo to send the email confirming they have received the documents? Did anyone receive such email / letter recently in September? If so, when did you send in your full application to Buffalo?

some more movement in CIC buffalo. My fren who applied under arranged employment ( currently working in Toronto) in Oct-2008, got email from CIC buffalo office two days back, that your file is transferred to NY Consulate Office, I don't understand this.. ??

So 2009 applications are still far behind, I think the time range has shifted from 6-12 months to 12-18 months under so called fast track.

Good Luck to all.

Increasingly makes me think that 6-12 months seems to have been their "global average" and CHCs could vary quite a bot across the world.
I am panicking because I need to leave the US next June i.e. if things don't move by early 2010 I've lost it!!

you can still move to US even if you get the PR while living overseas. Its inconvenient but don't worry, you can still move to Canada.

Rupeshhari, I am not sure I get you.
You say I can still process my PR after leaving the US?
I plan to get back to India next June.
Do you mean I can transfer my application from Buffalo to New Delhi?

You can either try transfer application to you Delhi or leave it as it is. If you leave it as it is, then you would have to come to the US for interview or passport stamping since you cannot mail your passport from india to US.
I heard transfering office is hard on this forum.

So you could try transfer it, but if they say no, then just keep it in buffalo and change your address to delhi. WHen they tell you to come for passport stamping, try get a US visa and come back.

Maybe its better to ask them to move it to delhi cause delhi is going faster than buffalo

The other offices have become quite fast..
Its just Buffalo, which has slowed down, or maybe just working at its usual pace..
