Hi, try this sample letter if u have an immigration file no. and have waiting for long time :

"I have submitted an application form for permanent residence as XXXXXX class to XX CIC office on XXXXX.
And since that I did not receive any notice or update form the immigration office.

I would like to check the status of my case xxxxxxxxx ?
