I did - I labelled and numbered everything so they wouldn't get mixed up or lost. Even the original police certs etc. I don't remember reading anywhere not to.

well best not to give them an excuse, in case you get an impatient VO...

To make my application as organized as possible, I numbered each copy of a document, and mentioned the number in a cover letter. For example, my passport copy was A-3, and no explanation was necessary.  But a copy of my lease, A-7 (to show intent to return to Canada) required an explanation, I  felt, and so  I gave the explanation in the cover letter. Thus the VO had only to read the cover letter, find the supporting document-copy easily, and approve my application before lunch!  :-)

In reality my wife and I had to go to an interview, but NOT because the application was disorganized (or so I prefer to believe).

Agreed with Toby, and I did the same. IN fact I think it says on the checklist or in one of the guides that you are to label each page (that's not part of a form) with the corresponding letter/number on the checklist and your surname.  I think it even gets so specific as to tell you which exact corner, maybe top or bottom right?

Also helps in case one of those loose papers somehow gets displaced, they SHOULD essentially be able to put it right back where it came from....

No one at the visa office will consider it bad for writing the identification of the applicant on the photocopies (top rt hand corners are best )  of his document which will help visa office staff to trace any paper  removed from the file/kit/package or what ever it may be. Additional papers can be attached to the forms when the provided column on any form is not sufficient to fill the information.

We did the same. We labeled and numbered every single page to make it as easy as possible for the VO. We didn't write OVER the photocopied image - however we did write in the white space on the page.
