I'm currently in Canada with a WP, my employer made a permanent offer if I get the PR, I'm collecting all the necessary paperwork and hopefully will file my application in a couple of weeks.

My WP is currently valid and expires in September this year, more likely I need to renew it since the PR will take longer than September, does anybody see any issue with this?? Just Curious

There shouldn't be any as long as either the same employer is going to keep you hired or you get a new one, and by the way your employer can sponsor you for the PR as well.

Thanks for the response! Yes, actually my employer is sponsoring the PR... just read once again the instruction and doubt about the WP.

Cool , super!!

Both of you will need to extend that WP, remember you'll have to apply well before it expires to avoid any conflict!

Do not hesitate to ask more questions and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Yes, emplyers apply for the LMO which allows them to hire a temporary worker, after that one goes and applies for the work permit.

Hi Wilbur

Processing WP in Canada takes a long time.. I would advise that get the LMO while you are working in Canada and go back to your home country and apply from there for new WP. you will get it in processed in a month there.

Thanks for the advice SapanaB, but would this renewal process affect the PR process?

It will not affect your PR process....in my case also my PR application was in process and my WP extension was applied...both almost came through at the same time.....

Also there is no need to go to ur country to get WP processed as in Canada though it takes more time to get the WP still u r legally allowed to stay beyond ur current WP expiary till ur hear about ur extension status.

All the best,.

did you checkout PNP? if you get that it would be even easier, it is all in one package, you can work till you get your pr, and apply for work permit with nomination! just an idea...and pnp is faster than fsw

currently for your case,

1. get an LMO extend work permit.
2. Apply for PR as SW2

You can do both parallely, no issues, but if your LMO is denied it closes both! Did you stay in canada for 2 yrs or more? if yes, apply under CEC (the best option).

Thanks for your comments, I call CIC and they confirmed I can do both things in parallel, I know there is some risk in trying to get the LMO but I need to run it.

I've been in Canada for 1.5 years now, I don't want to wait too much longer for the CEC, since things are changing so quickly with immigration...

You are in the same situation as me. I just got my LMO and sent for WP. For LMO make sure your company posts the ad in the job bank for 14 days, then you should not have any problems. Good Luck!

Is it jobsbank  / EmploiQuebec usually enough, or would it be wiser to also post on local newspapers and such, without going into the hassle of paid online services, radio ads etc?
