Hi,

My work visa will expire 1st March 2012. I'm planning to go to another country to visit, and planned to return just a few days before the expiry date.

Will the immigration officer let me stay?

If so, for how long? (I'm not from a visa-exempted country).

How long is your work permit valid for?

Thanks for the reply.

The expiry date of the work permit is the same as the visa - 1st march 2012.

My employer already applied for work permit renewal a few months ago (it's still in process).

Will there be complications at the re-entry point?

How can your employer apply for work permit renewal?  You must do that.  You mean your employer applied for a new LMO?  You probably won't have any issue re-entering as long as you can prove you are still employed.  You may have to explain what you are doing about extending your status.

You better apply for the work permit extension the minute you get back from vacation even if the LMO is not finished processing yet.  If the LMO is finished before you leave, apply for the work permit extension as soon as you get a positive LMO.  If the LMO is refused, you have a problem.

hi,
I am going to apply for an open work permit to canada from India, since my spouse is an international student already pursuing higher education in toronto.
My question to u is if my open work permit gets approved for 12 months and supposedly I get to go to Canada. But Can I come back to India and then again re-enter Canada during the visa validity.
kindly reply back  to me..
regards

As you have been told before, you require a Multiple entry TRV (visitor visa) to re-enter Canada if you leave.

Thanks for replying,
Can you please tell me how to apply for open work permit and trv at the same time.
In the open work permit application there is no column for multiple or single entry.
Should I write in the cover letter of open work permit application, that kindly grant me multiple entry trv if u r giving me wort permit?
or else can i fill 2 applications at the same time, one for trv- mutiple entry & the other for open work permit.
I am really worried about it.
Kindly revert back to me.
with warm regards,
Jish

it depends on what job category you are. If you are in live in caregiver, you need to renew your work permit 3 months before your work permit expires. About the re-entry visa, you need to apply through online and send it  outside canada, the processing is 30 days and the form is IMM 5257.

You need to post this question to a US immigration forum.

You have to apply for the WP application made outside of Canada (package includes application for TRV where you can opt for multiple entry visa)
