Work visa expires need to stay on tourist visa help!

Hi all,

I am currently on a 1 yr open holiday/work visa from Ireland and want to stay on in Canada on a tourist visa for another 6 months. I have heard different reports from different people as to the best way to do this and I'm not sure what to do. Is it better to go to the border with my degree certs and say that I am looking for work or is it better to send off an application for extension? I really want to stay on in Vancouver at least till late August so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. My visa expires on April 21st.
