Work two jobs - work permit issues ??

Hello and thank you in advance for your assistance.
I am an accountant who has been working in Canada for 3 years on various work permits.
My current job has been hit by the slow down and my pay has been cut as part of the slow down.
I have been offered a temporary positions of basically consulting for a company that could help me and my current employer (as I would not be looking for other full time work). This would not be a full time job or an on-going permanent job.
This job appears to be one that will be a few days a week for a couple of months. The pay should be fairly good.
What do I need to do to make this happen ... would I need to have a work permit that explained this situation?
Other facts: I have married a Canadian and I am close to getting all the paper work together for filing for PR under the family class.

If you are on a closed work permit, you would have to apply for a new work permit (LMO/HRSDC confirmation, if required).
I am not sure if you can maintain two closed work permits at the same time.
You can apply for the open work permit as you are married to a Canadian Citizen. You cannot work until you receive first stage approval for inland application (which takes about 6-7 months).

As far as I know, you can not hold two closed work permits at the same time. Once you get a work permit for the new job, you would not be allowed to work for the old employer anymore. Some people think this is ok and do this anyway, maybe without getting caught but it's not advisable. Would it be possible for your employer to "rent you out" to the other company so you would still be on the papers working for your employer?
Like accreddy says, if you are applying for inland PR, you can get an open work permit at your first stage approval in 5-6 months or if you are applying outland, you skip over open work permit and get PR in average around 6 months if you apply through the US.
