Hello,
I'm a U.S. citizen, recently accepted to an MA program in Canada, set to begin in the fall.

I've been offered a job this summer, doing research related to what my thesis will likely concern. The work is not through the school I plan to attend, but was recommended by my future adviser, and will be with an adjunct faculty member of the school. Payment would be from another institution, but one which is approved for off campus work.

My question is this: I have been offered a stipend if I can get permission to work. Is there a way to do that in this situation?

Thanks in advance.

No, not without a work permit.  It would be easier if you had already started school, but since you haven't I doubt if you will get a work permit for the job.

- You can try to apply for a work permit. Take a letter from your would be supervisor mentioning that this work experience is important or required for partial fulfillment of your MA program. You can obtain this type of letter from your institution too. Sometimes they issue work permit when they see that the work is mandatory or a part of your program.

Good luck.
