Work Permit while waiting for Sponsorship?

Hello!

I am travelling to Canada (from US) to be with my Fiance of two years and we will be getting married in November.  We will be sending an outland application and I was wondering, will I be able to obtain a work permit while we are waiting for the application to be approved?  How soon will I be able to work legally in Canada? What is the process to obtain a temporary work permit while waiting for PR?

I understand that I will have to leave after 6 months, but plan on visiting my parents in the States for a week then going back to Canada to wait more.

Hopefully someone will be able to answer these questions as I really want to be able to work while I await PR.

You will not be able to work unless you find an employer that is willing to do a LMO for the job.  You can come up and visit for up to 6 months, but that is at the officers discretion.  It is best to show proof of ties, rent receipts, bank accounts, letter from employer to prove that you are just visiting.  You also can not bring all of your belongings across with you as again you are a visitor, not moving.

6 months is the usual visit time, you can either cross and visit your parents and try to come back without an issue, but as I stated above, its up to the officer at the border.

If you come for 6 months and your application is not finished, you can pay $75 for an extension on your visitors visa.

Unfortunately as I said before you can't work because you are just visiting, you can NOT move here to wait out the process.

Assuming you don't find an employer who is willing to complete an LMO to hire you - you will be able to work once your outland application is approved and you have landed in Canada as a permanent resident.
