Hello All,

I'm currently on a Work Permit as a civil engineer, got that with a positive LMO. After I got my Work permit with this company and landed in Canada I got a better offer from another employer and have accepted it.

I have my SIN and my work permit is valid until 2014, but my current employer has terminated my employment since I've accepted the new offer. I only worked for this employer for 1 week.

The new company has started the LMO and work permit process.

Since I have work permit and SIN, I would like to know if I can start working for the new company immediately?  Is there some paperwork involved which would help me do so? or, Would I have to wait for the positive LMO and then the work permit to be approved? It is going to take about 3-4 months and what am I supposed to do in the meanwhile?

Any help or advice in this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks

No you cannot work for the new company as the work permit issued before was employer specific.  Unless it was an open work permit, you have no choice but to wait for the new LMO and work permit approval.

Thnaks for the reply.

So I'd have to wait the enitre 3-4 month period doing nothing?
I'm sure there would be someway through which I could start working.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

I agree with lovely20. You have to wait for the new LMO to be approved and then apply for a new work permit. Once the new work permit is approved, you'll be able to work. There are no short cuts / alternatives available and unfortunately you'll just have to wait. Hopefully it won't take 3-4 months.
