i presently live in the UK with a resident permit, and will wish to apply for a work permit. What are the possibilities that the work permit will be granted.

Who knows, have you got from the proposed employer, a postive Labour Market Opinion from HRSDC Canada? Are you apply for a BUNAC visa Not enough info.
