Hello,

My work permit is expiring in 2 weeks. I was told that a new LMO is needed for it to be renewed. I also learned that an LMO can be waived if one has a Provincial Nomination or even, just a provincial nomination application (SINP for my case). Unfortunately, i dont have both. However, I have an ongoing immigration application (Federal Skilled Worker) which I applied for in manila a couple of years ago and I am now past the medical examination stage and awaiting the passport request ( i hope ) . Will I be able to renew my work permit then? Thank you.

No, you need the LMO.  If you can't get the LMO, you can apply to change your status to visitor in order to stay in Canada until you get your PR.

Hello Leon, thank you for the prompt reply. I will file my application for WP tomorrow, (10 days) before my WP expires. I will attach a cover letter from my employer stating that an LMO has been applied, etc. My question is:

Will this buy me time (from application to denial or approval)?
I have been reading from this forum that one should submit application 30 days before orig WP expires, is this a strict rule?

Thanks
