work permit extension but need to travel out of Canada.Can I re enter

Hello,
I have applied for work permit extension from inside canada( i am from India).My work permit expires on 12 Dec 2011.I will be  receiving my work permit extension only by February 1st week.I have to travel to europe in February last week .Can I travel out of Canada and then re-enter only with my   extended work permit   or  i need my passport also to be stamped, before i leave Canada for my travel? I am confused.Once I get my work permit ,do i have to send my Passport for stamping to Canadian embassy outside Canada?? Then In that case i cannot travel ,till i get my passport stamped.

1.  If you don't have a valid TRV (visitor visa) in your passport, then you will need it to return to Canada.  So you will have to send your or take your passport into a Canadian office overseas with your extended work permit.
