Could someone please tell me what happens if a Work Permit expires before an extension is processed?  Does the worker have to leave the country?  I read something about "Implied Status" what does this mean?

thanks Wink

You can remain until you get a response from Vegreville.  That is implied status, also means you can continue working at the same employer.

OHIP will run out as you need a valid status and the expiry will be when your work permit expires, implied status does not give you this. I went through this last year went back and forth between Service Canada and CIC but to no avail and was not covered for about 1-2 months but then when you get your letter (AIP) from CIC you can get OHIP straight away and no wait time as you have already waited the 3 months when you first applied for it. May want to look at some insurance if it may be too long. I didn't, but you never know what might happen.

Does implied status apply if you have applied outland or only inland? My husband's work visa will run out in mid August - we have applied through Paris

Outland does not give you implied status.

hi experts,

Pls. help me I've read about the "implied status "if it is same work on my situation.
I am a foreign worker and my work permit is already expired last february , 2011
but last december ,2011 I had submitted my application for permanent residence together my open work permit under Spousal Sponsorship. Can I still work on my same employer or do I still need to
apply for another LMO and Work Permit?

Pls. advise me cause I dont wanna lost my status here in canada.
Thank you.
