Work Permit - 23 days till it expires

I am a US citizen under Nafta Professional program (work permit) in Canada and still in Canada. The employer wants me to keep working with them. I went to the port of entry to ask. The guy was rude at the beginning but cooled off after a few minutes of talking..anyways, my questions are:

1. does the employer has to go through Labor of market procedure?? (he never had to initially)
2. In the application to extend my work permit, it asks What are the reasons for your request? so I ask this forum, what would be my best answer or answers??
3. what should I do?

I am also still waiting from Buffalo about my permanent resident Skilled worker to be evaluated. It seems like its taking forever!! this would be my 13th month on the wait...
