Hi - my husband's application is currently in process at the Paris office, but things haven't been going well between us lately, and I'm not sure about our future together. Hopefully things will work out, but I'm just wondering up to what point I can withdraw my sponsorship if it doesn't?

The CIC information makes it sound like as soon as the visa is issued that it can't be withdrawn (I assume that means once he gets a PPR and sends his passport in). But other places I've read that it can be withdrawn any time up until he actually lands.

Can anyone enlighten me on this??

Sponsorship may be withdrawn at any point up to the PR landing.

It's a huge decision, so I hope you guys can work things out.  Good luck.

Why would you want to burn the bridge you will have to cross in the future? Withdrawing your app now will make things more difficult in the future if you need to reapply and sponsor him.

You should have known before hand that things weren't going to work out between you two before you made such commitment to sponsor him. It's a big deal for you and CIC.

Going through the process with CIC and sponsorship brings a lot of ups and downs with couples but you have to keep strong and build on it each time so you will benefit in the end.

Be wise about your decision.

Well, I'm not making any hasty decision, and I'm doing my best to work on things. I just wanted to know when the final time would be. I don't want to do this, and am certainly trying to work on things with him, but its hard when its only one person who's trying and the other one won't even talk!!!

Thanks for the support, I don't want to do this so hopefully things will get better, I'm still trying! The immigration stuff hasn't really played a part in this though, he's been here living with me for over 2 years, so we're not separated. Its not really a matter of being tough throughout the immigration process, that hasn't had anything to do with it.

I can't stress enough counseling for couples, even more so when they're going through something so stressful as immigration. If you're at the point you are and haven't tried counseling, it can't hurt to give it a shot. If money is tight, see what low cost resources are available. Don't give up without a fight. Counseling can really help open up the lines of communication when something/someone is preventing open, honest discussion. Even if he's not willing, go yourself. If he sees you going and trying, he may be willing to go at a future date.

Actually I tried counselling, he came once then refused to go back again! I'm definitely willing to work on things, but its really hard when the other person just thinks EVERYTHING is your fault!! But thanks for the suggestion, this whole situation is upsetting me so much, its so unnecessary. We have a really good life, he loves it here in Canada, I don't know why he's behaving like this.

So that means before he sent his passport in?

Sending a passport in has nothing to do with visa being issued...could take time after that, could be declined, could be called for an interview etc.

In other words do it if need be before ecas changes to " decision made ". As usually that is when we start to celebrate.

Every visa office has different ways of processing your applications and issuing the Visa, some visa offices will ask for passport submission in early stages and some will ask for it when a decision has been made and they are ready to issue the Visa!

as far as the withdrawal of application is concerned, there was this case when husband withdrew his sponsorship after the issuance of visa and Immigration Officers refused applicant to land at pearson airport, she was refused entry and sent back!

it says
''According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, a sponsorship can be withdrawn at any point of the process. Border officials can refuse permanent status to a sponsored individual as long as a sponsor expresses the intent not to fulfill the obligations. Sponsors are not obliged to provide reasons''.

Keep in mind thought, that it seems the woman could have appealed this decision, which would have been a long, drawn-out process, causing even more stress.
It would definitely be better to withdraw the sponsorship before the visa is issued.
Maybe your husband is acting like this because to him it has been a fake relationship all along, he just wanted to immigrate to Canada, and has been using you. And he's starting to find it stressful to try to keep pretending he is in a real relationship.
