Willing to apply for Skilled Worker Visa for Canada

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and i have seen lot many posts.Its really nice to share your experiences with us and i do really appreciate that. I am planning to apply for Skilled Worker Visa for Canada hopefully soon. So i need some basic information of how this process goes.

Currently i am in United States working on H1B visa from Sept 2008 to till date in an Insurance company as a Java contractor. I check my eligibility through points calculator so i wish to apply for this. Here are few of the things i need clarification.

1) When to apply for Canada Immigration (Any specific month/date)?
2) Can we apply on our own (or) do we need to approach any immigration consultancy for this?
3) What are the documents we need to submit for Canadian Embassy?
4) How much time it will take for Canadian Embassy to process our application approximately?

Any other information you want to share will be highly appreciated.

i am also in the process of applying.. gathering info.. to the best of my knowledge here are the answers..
Ans -1) no speicific month/date
Ans-2) Its not mandatory to go thru a consultancy.. the rule says u can also do it on ur owny.

Ans-4) in general everyone is saying it takes approx 12 mnths to get ur visa.

First, both of you must make sure whether you qualify for Canadian Immigration. For Canada - points eligibility is of Secondary Importance. Primary Importance is whether your NOC code is eligible for immigration or not. The only NOC eligible for immigraton related to the IT field is 0213(Computer and Information Systems Manager). If you both have a year's experience in that designation and you can back it up with proof, then apply for immigration otherwise dont waste your time and effort - it will come back as a Rejection. Once you fulfill the NOC criteria, then ONLY you need to get 67 points to support your application.

Otherwise, try for UK, Australia or New Zealand - these are the only 3 countries which solely relies on a Point System for an immigration qualifier.
